December 16, 200322 yr Don't know if others saw this yet.Something seems strange, maybe "to easy" with how this guy suggests tweaking your 9700/9800 card.Opinions?http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/howto/ati2004.htm
December 16, 200322 yr Hi,This has been around for a long time and there was a lot of flack on this when it was first posted (search through some of the posts on AVSIM).Besides allegations of an "Infomercial" for Dell through sponsorships deals (note the word allegations), the setting of mip levels to 8 will cause "swimming and flickering" of textures in FS2004 on 99.9% (and I suspect a 100%) of systems using this card.In my opinion, and the opninion of many other posters, "Capt Mason" lost a LOT of credibility on this one, and subsequent "Infomercials"Of course this is IMHO (in my humble opinion only) and YMMV (your mileage may vary) :-)
December 16, 200322 yr Thanks for the heads upI thought setting fps to around 20-25 was ideal, not "unlimited"
December 16, 200322 yr You'll also notice that it refers to Catalyst drivers from a while ago. This tweak page advertised to remove the flickers and tearing from the display, which has since been FIXED with the Catalyst 3.9 drivers.
December 17, 200322 yr Well, the Jury is out for me regarding limiting framerates. I am not seeing any improvement in smoothness with framerates limited vs. unlimited.
December 17, 200322 yr It depends strongly on your system. I am seeing an improvement over default terrain (less stuttering, e.g. when moving the camera around) with a setting of 20-25. However in Megascenery, it's a different story. I guess because with limited framerates, textures are loaded all around the aircraft, while it only loads textures in front of the aircraft when it is unlimited. So in Megascenery, where there are many different textures, texture memory might get clogged or something with limited fps. But this is just a guess.-Daniel
