FSX System Crashes

Featured Replies

I could use any suggestions, advice or just words of encouragement to help resolve system crashes I’m experiencing flying the PMDG747-400-8i. Flying from KJFK to KLAS, everything is fine through climb-out. After reaching my cruise altitude, I experience a FSX system crash within a short period of time (typically while I’m over PA or OH). I’ve tried running FSX sans my normal FSX add-ons. The furthest I’ve been able to get taking this “bare-bones” approach was only as far as Indiana before a FSX system crash occurred. I’ve also tried other routes with similar results. I use System Mechanic (v10.5) on a regular basis, so I don’t think I have a registry or drive issue with my PC. My PC is a Dell XPS 430 with an Intel Q8300 Quad 2.5 Ghz CPU (no overclocking possible with a Dell, so I’m told) and 8GB DDR3 memory runningWindows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Videocard is a nVidia 260 GTX with 2 – LG 2252TQ monitors. Flight controls: Saitek Pro FlightYoke/Pedals System. PMDG 747-400X version is 2.10.0040. PMDG model 8i ext version is 2.10.0041. SP1 installed (don’t know if this was needed). FSX w/ Acceleration running in “windowed” mode. My “round up of usual suspects” I call FSX add-ons, include: - Radar Contact - REX2 - Active Sky Evolution - FS Commander - FSPS-Xtreme FSX PC - EZdock Camera (latest add-on) After spending a good amount of time on the learning curve for a complex aircraft like this, it’s very frustrating to keep encountering FSX system crashes. I’ve had FSX system crashes occasionally with other aircraft, but nothing in comparison to the PMDG 747. Finally, I did try the same flight, but with the 747-400x original model. The good news (albeit strange) was that a FSX system crash did NOT occur. The bad news was that the autopilot acted erratically during the cruise phase of the flight (weaving left and right of the flight plan course). Before I uninstall and start over, I’d love to hear anysuggestions as to what I might try next. Thanks. Larry

Seeing Bryan York's posting from February of 2010 reminded me of one more additional add-on I have installed with my PMDG 747. It's the FS2Crew 2010: PMDG 747 Voice Commander Edition. I haven't used (or tried using) this add-on in several months since I couldn't get my headset(s) to work with it. I'll look further into Bryan's posting of last year to see if that might provide the answer.

Adding the file "UIAutomationCore.dll" (available from MediaFire.com) to the FSX folder seems to have solved the problem. This was suggested by member Gerard Beekmans in the main PMDG 747-400x forum section on essentially the same topic. Thanks Gerard.
