Bill Melichar KLAX

Featured Replies

I have KLAX installed by Bill Melichar. For some reason I get very big FPS hits on approach to this airport. I have almost all the Fly Tampa sceneries as well as many others that I don't get these fps hits with. Are there any texture programs or something else I can do to maybe change the scenery textures that might help. Thanks for any help Brad

Hi Brad. I dug in my archives and found; lax3.zip and lax3ud.zip. This is the KLAX by Bill Melichar that you are referring to? I took a look at the texture folder. I don't know that there is much you could do to improve the textures (256 x 256 - 256 colors, and R8 format as well as .PAT) Basically they are the same as what FS9 uses in the texture folder except the .PAT format. If I remember correctly .PAT is a format that was used by a scenery design program called Airport v2.60 for FS2002 and earlier. ( Works in FS9 ) I had a look at the three bgls. and the .xcl files. The three bgls are Scasm files with a lot of "calls". I believe that is where the FPS hit comes from. The newer FS9 XML format is a bit more efficient in FS9 and would account for Fly Tampa and other newer scenery performing better. So my humble opinion, based on what I think is accurate, is that there is nothing that can be done to improve it. *NOTE* It was a great scenery add on at the time it was produced and Mr. Melichar has developed some really great work, thanks for that Bill! Best regards,Mel
