Black screen when alt tabbing into FS2002

Featured Replies

Anyone have ideas? Whenever I alt tab back into FS from the desktop I get a black screen where the windshield should be. Happens with any plane. Running the 3.10s on an R9800NP and Bios 20 on my board if that helps at all. I can get the view back by switching out of full screen and then back into it, but it's a pain to have to do it all the time.TIA!

I had lots of problems like that with alt+tab and sometimes lockups (with a black widshield) with alt+enter. I have since started using the windows key (just outboard of the alt keys) to take me to the desktop. To return, I click the flight sim button on the task bar. Have you tried that? I haven't had a problem since I started using this method and it is the only reason that I've found to use that windows key! I don't know if this is meaningful, but I have not yet upgraded to the Cat 3.10 drivers. R-

By Windows key do you mean the one that opens the start menu? I tried that, didn't work either.

Grr looks like it's FS2002 itself, and not FSUIPC since when I delete FSUIPC it still turns black. Guess I'll have to reinstall. Is there a way to replace the core files of FS without having to reinstall all your planes etc again?

Reinstalled, changed drivers, no joy. :-( Any ideas?

"By Windows key do you mean the one that opens the start menu?"Yes, those keys. But I must apologize. I assumed without asking that you were running FS2004. I have no idea about what will happen on FS2002. If no one else answers, I'll fire up Fs2002 and see if I can duplicate the problem in 2K2. To be honest, it never happened to me until I got 2K4. R-

Weird, it still happens, I swapped all kinds of drivers, reinstalled even. Guess the only thing that might help is a format. :-/

Ouch, formatting seems extreme. Give me a few hours to check out a couple of things. R-

Yeah, I'm going to try a system restore first.

Sorry for the long delay, I had to reload FS2002. I hope the restore fixes your problem it sounds to me like a windows problem. After I got FS2k2 working, I found that I could alt+tab back and forth between the desktop and Flight Sim or use the windows key without a hitch. I too am using XP Home. R-

Weird, a restore didn't fix it. Anyway, I don't know what to think, I ended up formatting due to some driver issues, flashed the BIOS back to what it was originally and ran FS2002 in Win2000 compatibility mode. Didn't work at all. Once I tab back into FS it looks almost like the sim is paused, the gauges are frozen to what was showing before I alt tabbed out, and there's black all over the outside views. Could this possibly be related to fast writes/AGP speeds like 4X vs 8X?

Did this start recently? I assumed that it did and assumed that a restore would fix it. Wrong again. Sorry but I have no ideas at the moment. I'll sleep on it. R-

Yeah it's really weird. I'll try it on a different PC to see if my CDs are possibly corrupted, but I'm out of ideas. I'll try contacting MS.

MS thinks it's my display drivers, but they're the latest Cat 3.10s. I've also gotten some other problems, like a stop error on one boot, very long bootup times and some problems with my drivers. I can't overclock and get into Windows at all, even at settings that were 100% stable before.Could it be the motherboard?
