Terrain Question

Featured Replies

Could anyone please explain exactly what happens when you increase ordecrease your settings in... TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUSTERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUSThanksMartyn

Its something to do with the amount of higer resolution texturs the sim uses around your plane. the default i think is the size of the inner ring closest to u. the extended is the ring(s) after the inner ring. but i dunno i hate the fs2004 terrain system. i thought they would fix it after fs2002 but they did nothing. u still get blurry textures jumping in and out constantly no matter what your fps is. i reakon the terrains LOD is not near aggressive enough. ive never found any setting to properly alleviate the stubborn blurriness. its more noticable at higher altitudes, like FL20+.using aniostropic filturing helps the look of terrain, but it doesnt fix the underlying problem of the sim constantly swapping out higher LOD textures for lower ones.

Thanks for that Michael, hope we get more input.Martyn

Those settings will increase the 'focus' area around the aircraft, but as has been mentioned already, at altitude it's less noticeable; unless you're in Spot Cam mode and pull back a fair way from the aircraft....then it looks lovely, but the fps take a hit :-roll Also, note that if you make any changes to the display settings from within the sim, it will go back to it's original, default settings on those two TERRAIN TEXTURE lines in the .cfg!!! On my system, there is a second file, right next to my 'fs9.cfg', called "fs9.cfg" and it is a text file...I think the game uses it as a backup, and copies data from it, so, having backed up both, I make the changes I want in BOTH files, and then the sim doesn't seem to lose the new settings.Hope that makes sense!!
