Should I get more RAM

Featured Replies

I am using 2GB DDR3 1333 Mhz a module by Dynet , I was trying out the default 737-800 in FSX @KLGA with Manhattan X. Under Task Manager FSX is using up 1.3 GB of RAM should I buy more RAM then. And can I mix the current module with a Corsair or a G.skill 2GB 1333 Mhz ? I honestly can not spend right now for any thing higher at least for the next few months. My Specs are in my sig.

You should at least use 4GB RAM. Are you using XP, Vista or Win7 32bit or 64bit OS? Edited: And the additional 2GB memory stick should be exactly the same model as the existing one to ensure that you have no problem with running the sticks in dual channel mode.

Os is Win 7 64 bit Ultimate. Ok. I am getting G.skill rapture 4 GB modules are they better than Corsair ? Would I notice better performance in FSX with 4 GB ?

If your low on RAM when using FSX the OS would use more virtual disk (the page file on your hard disk) to free up physical memory (RAM) to enable FSX to use more memory. This will slow your system down. Do you have problem with frequent and short "pauses"/freezes in FSX?

Have you monitored the amount of allocated memory for FSX with the Task Manager when this happens? My guess is that 4GB RAM would give you smoother flights when using heavy duty add ons, but it's quite common that you get "pauses" when approaching those mega add on sceneries.

Yep I have monitored it. The only heavy stuff I have is Manhattan X. And NL-2000 works seamlessly no pauses stutters or anything. And usually just use the Cessna 152 from Just flight (free version) and the one from Carenado both of these are not Sumo's on the CPU. Though my CPU is nothing too great but it's atm cost effective till the Bulldozer is launched.
