August 10, 201114 yr Currently I have a 240GB SSD drive as my main/fsx drive. The drive is a Sata II and gets about 250r/220w speeds. I have two questions: 1) Will i see any increase/decrease in performance if I were to buy another SSD, then have my "main drive" C: and "FSX drive" D: So two separate SSDs. 2) What if the second "FSX drive" was a Sata III drive with speeds around 550r/530w. Do you think that there would be an increase/decrease in performance going that route? Thanks <---------------> Mike Murawski
August 10, 201114 yr Hey Murawski! I think there would be a performance increase, but I doubt you will even notice it. Seems like the setup you have already is very good! I'm just taking a guess, though.
August 11, 201114 yr Sata 3 is twice as fast as Sata 2, so you would see a jump in performance if you bought yourself a Sata 3 compatible SSD. I'm running two OCZ Vertex 3 128GB drives in RAID-0 configuration and I benched it at 975 MB/S. It really makes a different for opening programs and during startup. Windows starts in about 20 seconds and FSX goes from launch to flying a default flight in about the same time as well. You also see a huge improvement in installing software. The progress bars just can't keep up.
