Feelthere ERJ 145 v2
Thanks for the responses. I always thought the model had to be designed to support bump/specular mapping so either all the textures or none of the textures didn't have bump mapping. That is why the Avsim review confused me. I was thinking about the FeelThere e-jets series instead, but if it is more complex, I think I would have more fun with the erj 145 add-on. I really would like the Legacy but it seems that it hasn't been updated to V2.

Feelthere ERJ 145 v2
Hey Everybody! I am looking into purchasing a new aircraft for FSX. I have been eyeballing the Wilco/Feelthere ERJ 145 v2 for a while now, but I have been holding off because I have not found a definitive answer to my question: does this model have bump mapping on the exterior model? I am a bit of an eye candy junkie (not enough time to involve myself with simulations as complex as PMDG, unfortunately. Maybe I will have more time after college ) so this is an important feature of a payware model for me. I have searched extensively on google, youtube, and forums, but I can't seem to find an answer. Can anybody help me? Regards.737Best

SSD for FSX
Hey Murawski! I think there would be a performance increase, but I doubt you will even notice it. Seems like the setup you have already is very good! I'm just taking a guess, though.

NGX on i7-2600K
Wow! Looks good! I have been wanting to get this, but I need to update my gfx card. Do you think it would be better to go with 1 GTX560 card or 2 GTX460s in an SLI?

5/9/10 CNBC Documentary on AA
I think I caught that around Thanksgiving. It was pretty interesting. I really hope American Airlines stays around, what with all the Legacy carriers merging into each other.

Fraudulent charges
see I don't have to worry because I'm poor :(As long as you are smart about what you do online, you can stay pretty safe. I myself always check to make sure that the URL bar has a lock icon before I make any online transactions, and also I don't do transactions through e-mail (if I get a warning about something I go directly to paypal or something). Even in taking precautions, it is still very possible to get information stolen.

CS 727
Hey everyone,I know this isn't a support forum but I have little luck with Captainsim and their support. Has anyone experienced problems with the radio when you fly the 727 Captain for FSX? Everytime I touch the nav radio knobs i am unable to contact atc. Just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem (or am I all alone!)This is just one of a whole slew of problems I have with that aircraft. I wish I never spend the 70 Bucks! Thanks!

Looking to Build New System...HELP
737Best replied to flynman33's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcwith that much?I would invest in a decent core 2 quad, some good ram, a good mobo, and A LOT of cooling. That way you can overclock your hardware...that is, if you are up to it. Overclocking is a good way to get great performance for a decent price. As for a graphics card...if you want to save...go with a 9800GT. If you are willing to spend a little extra, get a better graphics card. I am running an 8800 GTX in an otherwise new core i7 and with the settings pretty much maxed out I am running around 18 fps in the NYC area (REX, world of ai, and a 3rd party aircraft). Although I haven't noticed a significant difference in tuning FSX, the key to good fps is to tweak the settings to optimize it for your computer.Good luck!EDIT: I am thinking along the lines of a computer built for fsx, but for fs9 everything I said above should be more than adequate without overclocking.

Is a dedicated drive for FSX optimal or even necessary?
737Best replied to duckbilled's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcalright just making sure. I am thinking of buying my new system tonight

Is a dedicated drive for FSX optimal or even necessary?
737Best replied to duckbilled's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcI know this thread is dead but I have a question:If I have a 7200 RPM hd with the OS and a 10000 RPM hd with fsx is there going to be a bottleneck from the slower drive when you are playing FSX?

Dual core to Quad core
737Best replied to a post in a topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcI am building a new rig with a core i7. I think they will provide a slight boost in performance over an "older" quad core or a dual core. If you don't want to overclock, then probably a core i7 or a different quad core will be better. Also, you might want to consider RAM choices. The Bloomfield i7s use the x58 architecture which support triple channel ram...theoretically it yields a performance gain but honestly the lynnfield i7s (which only support up to dual channel) bench marked at around the same time.If you are like me and you listen to music or procrastinate (thus having Word open) while simming, you may want to spring for an i7 or a quad core with a high clock speed. I would stick with quad cores anyway because most of the dual core processors are being phased out (and becoming discount processors).

Is a dedicated drive for FSX optimal or even necessary?
737Best replied to duckbilled's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcI bought an HP 2159m from Best Buy in June and it was 10 bucks cheaper than HP.com and it is very crisp and sharp and displays things beautifully. If you don't like glossy screens, then maybe it is not for you, but I definitely recommend it.

Is a dedicated drive for FSX optimal or even necessary?
737Best replied to duckbilled's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcHmm...didn't know that. I did not really know much about RAID (I had it once before, but the drives were not identical and it failed in a matter of hours...but it was just for experiment's sake). So you recommend running 2 velociraptors (one with the OS and one with FSX)?

Is a dedicated drive for FSX optimal or even necessary?
737Best replied to duckbilled's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcDuckbilled, have you thought of possibly running 3 Velociraptors? (2 in RAID.0 for FSX and 1 for the OS)? I am thinking of doing that because I was thinking of using 2 Velociraptors in a RAID.0 and having FSX share the same partition as the OS, but now that I see this post I think getting 3 would be the fastest option.

My New Computer Maybe?
hmm. Thanks for the replies! Yea, I guess nothing is free :(.Ryan, I was looking into the tri-channel ram but I do not think the mobo I chose supports it. I don't know much about the tri-channel ram-modules though. As for a power supply, I've been running an Ultra 600W one for 3 years and it has been fine (and I don't think they are a good brand). The ram I currently picked out was "specifically designed" to support i5s and i7s with the p55 board (and it would probably be cheaper than buying a mobo that supports tri-channel and tri-channel ram). So, it turns out the current motherboards being offered for the Lynnfield Core i7 processors only support dual channel. So I will probably have to spend some more money and spring for the Nehalem processors and triple channel memory!

My New Computer Maybe?
Hey guys!I've got 2500 to spend on a computer, and while browsing newegg I found what I find is a good setup. I'm not expecting like 100 fps from fsx (just a solid 20 with manhattan x and REX is all I want). The components listed below do not make a whole computer (but the computer I am on right now has good parts that I am going to use)I'm thinking of:Intel BOXDP55KG LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard - RetailIntel Core i7-860 Lynnfield 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80605I7860 - RetailCooler Master Intel Core i5 compatible Hyper TX3 Socket 775/1156/AMD 130W 92mm "heatpipe direct contact" CPU Cooler RR-910-HTX3-GP - RetailAPEVIA CF12SL-UBL 120mm Blue LED Case Fan - RetailWestern Digital VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS 150GB 10000 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive (bare drive) - OEM (2 of these are going in a RAID 0 config)mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model 996679 - Retail (2 sets of these for 8 gig)KINGWIN Mach 1 ABT-1000MA1S 1000W ATX / BTX SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power ... - RetailAnd a free copy of Windows 7 x64 pro from MSDN-AA (one of the perks of being a college student :( )As you can see above, this setup is missing a vid. card, and also an optical drive. I have an optical drive that works just fine already so there is no point in getting a new one, (the laptop my school provided has a Blu Ray burner anyways so there is no point in upgrading). The videocard in my current setup is a BFG NVIDIA 8800 GTX with a factory overclock.I wanted to run it past you guys before I actually buy the parts. It seems like a decent machine (and it seems very easy to overclock). My current pc is plagued by cooling issues so this will be a good change.I forgot to mention this (80% complete) rig will only set me back 1500 bucks! And it comes with a lot of cables but I am going to reuse most of the ones from my current setup.Any comments? Advice? Thanks!!!(my current setup is running an ASUS a8n-sli deluxe with an AMD athlon 64 fx 60)

Farm Simulator Best Seller
yea my friends make fun of me because I play TML-Studios' Path Simulator and I'm anxiously awaiting the release of Bus Simulator. I personally thing Farm simulator would get boring, but I think it's a really cool concept! Each to his own ;)

UHDT - It doesn't get any better then this!
Soya, these shots are absolutely spectacular!!!!!! (but I'm sure you've heard that before lol)I'm just curious about your computer. Tweaking FSX really works wonders, but I have noticed the processor is very important as well. Are you running a newer Intel? My AMD Athlon fx 60 was THE gaming processor of it's time (feels like just yesterday) but it doesn't seem to love FSX (or FS9 for that matter). As for McPhat, why do people hate them so much? I saw something a whileback about them doing something illegal? Maybe I'm imagining things lol

Overclocking
I'm thinking of building a new pc but in the meantime I decided I'd go ahead and overclock what I got:right now I got my processor running stable according to the prime95 torture test (lol) at 2.83 GHz (up from 2.61...isn't that much of an improvement). After raising ONLY the FSB speed to 218 MHz I raised my processors rating to 5.2 (up from 5.1) and RAM to 5.1 (up from 5.0) using the vista test thing.I don't know why but anything above 218 MHz FSB causes problems....could it be the RAM?Any suggestions?Oh and I forgot to mention my specs are:Asus A8N32-SLI deluxe MotherboardAMD Athlon 64 fx-60 Processor @ 2.8 GHz (up from 2.6)4Gb G.SKILL (4 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)BFG nVIDIA GeForce 8800GTX OCHD1: SATAII 250Gb @7200RPM-Windows Vista Ultimate x64HD2: SATAII 500Gb @7200RPM-StorageHD3: SATAII 250Gb @7200RPM-Windows 7 Beta x64It was nice....2 years ago lolol

Eaglesoft CitationII
I bought it a while back....and at first I regretted the purchase. But after having it it's one of my favorite aircraft! It provides a complete package (V.C. and all). I think it's realistic. The only thing I have against it is that it's really old (since it's essentially a port from FS9 with some FSX effects) and the internal texture don't look as sharp as a newer addon. But it's truly a fun aircraft to fly (and easy!!!)And kudos to Eaglesoft for not abandoning their older products!!!I think for right now if you want the flashiness of an FSX-specific jet I would go with the Flight 1 Mustang (I don't have it but it looks really nice). One thing I forgot to mention is that the FPS don't really get affected by the CJII package and that is definitely a plus!!! (especially flying out of KTEB)

World Airports 3
As all of you have probably seen, Just Flight has pre-released World Airports 3. What I can't believe is the price of it! With shipping it came out to be only like 43 bucks!!!! But what confuses me is if I bought each individual airport from Imaginesim, it would come out to be like over 100 bucks. So my question is how is this possible?! I'm not a fan of Imaginesim because their prices are so high but I must say this is a good deal for the quality. The best part is they picked really good airports to model! (They did a job somewhere in between a freeware scenery and Fly Tampa quality so it's not that bad!)Anyone else getting it or got it?

Miracle on the Hudson
My classmates and I rushed out of class when we heard what happened and I was shocked to see that a plane was floating down the Hudson! I couldn't believe what I was seeing! I'm so happy that everyone got out alive. The pilot has skill! The co-pilot is quoted saying that "no one's ever had a successful ditch before. You pulled it off" to the pilot. Aren't ditches usually pretty successful? (Something like 80% i saw in a documentary once)

FSX and Windows 7?
I love how it's called Windows 7 and yet Apple has been using numbers to designate the version of their OS. Just another way to try to conform to the public to match Apple. And I also find it hysterical that they have "I'm a PC" sticker on their Dell Laptops (Windows is so desparate!).Enough Windows Bashing though:I'm very excited for Windows 7 to come out! I think it will be a drastic improvement over Vista and maybe a formidable opponent to Snow Leopard. From what I've seen I'm very impressed! The touch thing is a gimmick but it seems promising. I hope boot camp will incorporate drivers for the multi-touch trackpads on the new Macbooks/Pros!And I hope Verizon will unlock their death grip on their firmware to enable it to communicate properly with Windows 7.

3rd Monitor, Will It Impact Fps?
If you are running an independent application, then I doubt it will affect it much if your processor can handle it. Also if you are adding another GFX card to support the 3rd monitor I think you are in the clear, since it would be a completely independent card. In the FSX settings you can pick which card fsx is outputting from. I personally am deathly afraid of getting a second monitor because my FSX fps are awful (and I have a decent pc). But in your case it'll be okay.

Scenery Enhancements
I completely forgot about UTX. From what I am reading, FEX and REX are pretty much the same thing, so I guess I will go with REX. I definitely will take another look at UTX before I make my decision. Thanks everyone!
