August 14, 201114 yr Hi guys, There was a thread listing operators with HUGS, but I can't seem to find it I was also wondering, are all 737 fitted with HUGS CATIII certified, or do they need fail operational autopilots etc? Thanks Jordan Forrest
August 16, 201114 yr CATIII ≠ fail-op. You can perfectly fly up to CAT 3A with fail-passive autopilots AND/OR a certified HGS. Otherwise up to CAT 2 is permitted manually if you don't have a HGS, everything above that will be autoland.Otherwise, I'm pretty sure all HGS fitted are CAT 3 certified, otherwise there would be little reason (I think), except for inreased SA but I wonder if they'd install any HGS "just" for increased SA, but not for CAT3. In fact I highly doubt ANY NG is not CAT 3 certified. Maybe some 732, 733, 734 or 735 weren't, but that's the past.
August 16, 201114 yr Author I know CATIII doesn't mean fail op, I was just wondering whether a fail op A/P was a requirement for CATIII, which it seems it isn't. Thanks for the response Jordan Forrest
August 16, 201114 yr Correct. In fact all NGs without fail-op APs (e. g. all older Honeywell MCP equipped ones) are CAT 3A maximum.
