C185 skywagon ground track on takeoff

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I've got an issue where during takeoff roll in the skywagon, before I rotate, my plane seems to forward slip while still on the ground. It happens every time, even without wind. Now, I understand p-factor torque, but as you apply right rudder to counter act it, shouldn't the plane face the direction it is rolling? What happens is that, after applying right rudder and compensating for the leftward drift, and finally tracking straight down the runway, my nose is pointing decidedly to the right. Another words, I'm tracking 12 o'clock but my nose is pointing to 2 o'clock. Seems to me I'd shred my tires every other takeoff if this was RL. I've tried locked tailwheel and unlocked tailwheel, crosswind and no crosswind - regardless, it always happens. So, is this a natural atribute of this plane, or something strange? I only have RL experience in a tri-cycle landing gear plane... never a tail dragger. Anybody else have this happen? Is there a proceedure I'm missing? Is there a fix if it's a bug? Thanks...
