November 1, 200223 yr I found this link via dpreview.com this morning. They are interested in the site for digital photo reasons, but it is quite interesting to us from an aviation view. http://www.californiacoastline.org/Their project is to digitally photograph the entire California coastline as a baseline of "before" photos to serve in the future detection of illegal coastline modification (destruction). They have over 7000 photos on their way to 10,000.It's pretty cool how they are putting this database together. You can read all about it on the site, but basically they have a GPS hooked up to a Nikon D1x camera, which automatically records the GPS location of each shot. They dump the photos to a Powerbook. The shots are taken from a Robinson R44.The site is fun to browse, as you can click a position on the map and seconds later the photo from that location pops up.Enjoy! (Thanks DPReview.com for the original pointer.)
November 1, 200223 yr dpreview is the reasons I'm hardly here any more.Learned a ton about digital cameras. It's the place to go before investing in a camera.
