January 6, 200422 yr Hi,Has anyone else tried to download things from the NapuleVola Naples scenery website? It is REALLY slow! Maybe everyones trying to get the scenery at the same time or something. My download speeds are usually 15-17 K/sec but range between 1 and 5 K/sec on this site. Sometimes it just stops altogether. Avsim, could you not get them to upload to your library or something, that way i might get it before february! Thanks, Mark
January 6, 200422 yr Avsim is the best site in the world but they do make a habit of showcasing impossible downloads where the site either gets immediately buried in a pile of fanatical simmers or the bandwidth is simply not up to the task. Like you, I found the download speed to be about as fast as ordering a pizza in a sushi bar and will take another look there in a week or twelve.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
January 6, 200422 yr Mark,"Avsim is the best site in the world but they do make a habit of showcasing impossible downloads where the site either gets immediately buried in a pile of fanatical simmers or the bandwidth is simply not up to the task."Somehow, I read that as a criticism of AVSIM...We report the news. If a site can't handle the download demand then placed on it as a result of that news, they have two options; don't send us PR asking us to notify the community, or expand their bandwidth to accomodate the increased demand. I can't see how we can be held responsible for that, nor can I understand the implication that some how we should "vet" the sites to ensure your download speeds are going to be up to your expectations. Alternatively, maybe we shoould not report software releases at all, removing AVSIM from having any responsibility in your download experiences. Maybe I am just in a grumpy mood, but on first read, that is how I interpret your message. Please correct me if I am wrong. :)
January 6, 200422 yr Oh heck, I've upset the boss. Grumpy or not, I'm sorry if you have taken offence, Tom!Inevitably, my statement was - to be grammatically correct - a 'criticism' of Avsim, although you must be well aware that it contains both positive and negative sentiments!I accept that you report the news but - since you've questioned my words - it's a fact that most organisations reporting news check their sources before going to print. Similarly, you have the option to check whether a website actually exists or is serviceable before publishing information. Do you have to, are you obliged to? No, of course not; but a number of your reported Press Releases have referenced sites or downloads that were not ready or up to the task, particularly when third party and nothing to do with Avsim directly. In my view, that does present a slight risk of damaging your editorial reputation in the long run. It's their fault, yes, if they don't have their act together, but it inevitably reflects on you. But hey, I'm not complaining for a moment, just concurring with the original poster that the Napoli site's download speed is, regrettably, like a drugged sloth in thick treacle. Avsim is free to me, I love it, and I guess I'd just better button my lip in future if I am ever to expect you to buy me a beer in Denver.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
January 6, 200422 yr Umm ... well, avsim couldn't possibly investigate if every posted site meets high traffic demands, could they.Of course, they could upload the scenery to their servers *hint* ;)-Daniel
January 7, 200422 yr Tom......he did say "Avsim is the best site in the world..." glass half empty? I know what it feel like!
