On our way to the Island in the Sky District, we pass the White Rim. KCNY-U96_9.jpg The Island in the Sky District is a series of broad and level mesas between the Colorado and Green Rivers: KCNY-U96_10.jpg Next we arrive at the confulence of the Colorado and Green Rivers: KCNY-U96_11.jpg After the confluence we can see the the colorful labyrinth of canyons and sandstone formations of the Maze district to our right. This is the least accessible section of the park. KCNY-U96_12.jpg Next we fly along Cataract Canyon which is a popular whitewater rafting destination. It contains powerful whitewater rapids similar to those found in the Grand Canyon. KCNY-U96_13.jpg At Hite the Colorado meets Lake Powell. The original town of Hite, which was established by gold seeker Cass Hite somewhere in the 1880's is submerged beneath the waters of Lake Powell. KCNY-U96_14.jpg Next we fly along Lake Powell: KCNY-U96_15.jpg And finally arrive in the Bullfrog Basin area: KCNY-U96_16.jpg Our landing for today is at Cal Black Memorial (U96): KCNY-U96_17.jpg I hope, you enjoyed our little trip. Hopefully AOPA continues with more articles about this series of flights (the final destination of the Waco was Long Beach). By all means they should not miss the Grand Canyon!
