Last Question on SRT

Featured Replies

OK so I am very close to making my decision. I have decided to get one 120GB Agility 3 SSD from OCZ and partition maybe 20GB to caching then 100GB for FSX only and to get rid of thoses annoying grey slow load times! I just want to know if that is possible and how can I do it. Thanks,

Can SRT work with a partition? I thought it had to be a dedicated drive?

I have seen somewhere that you can set your cache then the rest of the SSD is yours to play with. I am just not sure if I can set the amount of cache cos I may only need 10GB.

Surely if you can choose between 20, 30, 40, 60 GB SSDs etc for the cache, then you could choose the amount of cache when partitioning for SRT. Btw, whats your logic behind this? A 120GB SSD for FSX and SRT. Why not just put both the OS and FSX on the SSD?

Cos that 'll mean a complete reinstall of the OS and the OS runs fast enough as it is. The cache will accelerate boot times by putting all the boot files onto the cache and then in windows it'll be running off the HDD. There must be a way to choose how much cache I can have. At max, I want 20GB cache so I can have 100GB for FSX.

Ahhh. So its because you cant be bothered with the entire windows etc reinstall. I know what you mean. Its a right pain in the a$$

I nearly came to it when I was trying to fix the PC after i switched the switch on the PSU, would not boot. Even after I completely cut the power I turned it on, said resuming windows and the nothing. But why did it say resuming windows, does the HX750 have a little battery in it. Anyway, chucked in the win 7 disk and ran the repair and it wa fixed. Really don't want to do a fresh install! My month of FSX tuning down the drain. ohmy.png So if I can just speed the boot time a little, decrease load time for things like chrome, vegas, and then ahve the rest of the SSD for pure speed for FSX.

Agreed. Best option

Ooh thank you. You agreed. Now does anybody know how I could somehow split it or set how much cache. If it goes wrong then its 120GB for FSX.

It should be as simple as just partitioning the drive shouldn't it. Sending one part to work in RAID with the Caviar Blue and 100GB of the SSD for FSX only.

OK, change of plan. I have just spotted a 24" Samsung BX2450 for just $185! Over hear they are usually $240 so its a deal I can't let slip by. Never mind this thread, still if anyone knows how I can partition the SSD for SRT and FSX, that'd be great.
