September 3, 201114 yr When running ASE on a client PC, everything starts off okay - I can see my aircraft on the ASE Map View, and weather seems to be injected into FSX without issue.Once ASE and FSX have been running for a few minutes though, some map functions almost grind to a stop. If I try to change the scale for example, by clicking on the + or - buttons, ASE then just hangs with a large egg timer over the map display. The same happens when trying to use the bottom selection boxes, or move the map. It doesn't 'freeze' as such, I can still use most other menu options. The map does eventually rescale some minutes later, but the aircraft has long since left that position. It could just as easily be, that I'm simply misunderstanding what's meant to happen... should the aircraft symbol follow my flight, or does it only update position when the weather updates?I'm also wondering if it's normal to take 4 - 5 minutes from launching ASE, to fully loading and enabling the control icons? No problems if so, I just want to be sure there's no issues at my end.The client PC is only a lowly 1.8 Pentium P4, but I wouldn't have thought the ASE overhead is very high? Thanks Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)
September 3, 201114 yr Hi Phil, Map adjustments can take a bit of time. I use my ASE on quite an old computer and the Map screen acts the same way when making adjustments. Now, if you are not making adjustments make sure you have the Lock to FS position box check on and the aircraft symbol should follow your flight pretty closely. Also try with less Map options on. One other thing to try is making sure that on the General options screen you have the Force High Priority Processes checked On. Yes, that is about right for the initial startup time. If you don't use that client for much of anything else it's OK to leave ASE running if the download interval is set to the maximum time. Please note that it is possible that FSX and ASE will not connect again, but you'll know that pretty much right away. I pretty much leave my ASE running all the time.
September 4, 201114 yr Author Okay thanks Jim. I do have the box ticked for locking to aircraft, but often need to recheck it. The aircraft definately does not follow at a rate that's of much use. Doesn't really matter too much, as FSC is also running, supplying the moving map. I'm wondering now then, if it would help to ugrade the client as, also running on there is EFB, FSC and obviously WideFS. EFB does seem to be a little resourse hungry, so that may also apply. I have indeed noticed that if I close either ASE or FSX, then reconnection fails. I can only reconnect by restarting both, ASE first. Not if halfway through a flight. So, like you suggest, I'll just leave it running in the systray.
