January 11, 200422 yr Hi All,any techie minded guru's out there who know if I should let Win XP Pro handle my page file size, or should I set it to something else, I've heard of others that have set their own sizes up, but I don't know what sizes to use, ie. Minimum and Maximum sizes, I'm running 1024MB of RAM on an Intel P4 3.02GHz CPU as you can see in my sig.thanks for any helpSteve
January 11, 200422 yr Author Hi Steve,Take a tip and leave it to Windows. If you have two drives then the best advice I can offer is for you to put the bulk of the paging file (total size will be determined by Windows) on the fastest drive or a partition that does not have the operating system installed. For example. I have 1GB RAM installed. I have two drives (both same make and speed), the first has 2 partitions and the second drive I've left alone and use for backups and 'transient' software.Windows is installed on its own on a 6Gig partition and 5MB of Paging file is allocated to this partition (Initial and Max set to 5MB). Windows needs a small paging file for various housekeeping tasks. 1534MB is allocated to the second drive (Initial and Max set to 1534MB).The beauty of this arrangement is the reduced tendency for the paging file to become fragmented over time as it would do were it all to be on the same partition as the o/s. That's my understanding of the situation and my experience over the past year or so suggests that this appears to be correct.Mike
