January 20, 200422 yr Everytime I go to start FS2004, an error message pops up stating-"Your computer has run out of available memory. Flight Simulator will now exit. You may not have enough free space on your hard drive". I have done a disk cleanup to free up space and I still get the same message. Does anybody have any ideas on how to correct this problem. January 20, 200422 yr Hello Friend:My only answer is to reInstall and make sure all anti virus programsare closed, and install to drive c.this might help.
January 20, 200422 yr You might want to search the forum. This has come up numerous times and is usually traceable to an aftermarket addon or ineffective messing with Windows XP settings. As a last resort download memtest and check you don't have a bad stick.Allcott
January 20, 200422 yr Thank you gentlemen for your responses. I guess I'll re-install onto the C drive and see if that solves the problem.
January 20, 200422 yr Hold on there Cowboy! What have you installed to FS since the last time you fired it up?I had this happen to me today! Never before. I had installed a group of FS Scenery Enhancer files from the Logo web site, and they were not named what they should have been, so, FS just refused to work using the old out of memory bit.I removed the files, and sure enough, I had enough memory, (1gig), I renamed the files to what they should have been, and by magic, everything worked again. What have you added since the last time FS opperated properly?Clay
January 21, 200422 yr I second Clay's remarks...A bad scenery file will cause this error. When MSFS starts up, it looks for new scenery and if it finds it, it does an index rebuild. The out of memory error can happen during the rebuild. You can find out exactly what's causing the problem by doing a search for all scenery.dat files in your FS9 folder and subfolders. The one most recently modified will point to the scenery folder causing the issue.Between FS2002 and FS2004 I've never had to reinstall. Most of these types of problems can be tracked down to a change and/or to some file that can be replaced. It may take fifteen, maybe twenty minutes worth of research, but you'll make up that time if you don't have to worry about replacing add-ons...-John
January 22, 200422 yr John and Clay,Thanks for the great advise. I plan to spend the weekend tracking down the problem thru the scenery.dat files. Hopefully I'll be back in the virtual skies soon. Mark
January 23, 200422 yr Author Mark: I just downloaded a couple of FSE files from the LAGO website and was presented with the 'FS9 out of memory' message. I just did a Search and I'm happy that I found this thread!Maybe others can benefit from it.-GeorgeM at 5B6
January 23, 200422 yr George,Just rename the scenery files, they come as, (faking the numbers here)8456937dia.fse2.remove the numbers before the dia and they will work fine.Best,Clay
