FSAutostart - question

Featured Replies

Firstly, Ken, thanks for the freeware. Now the question. First please let me explain that the peak of my computer knowledge is turning PCs on and off and installing freeware onto FS2K2. That's it.So, I'm on WinME and am given the option to turn off a list of programs on FSAutostart. Do I set all of them to 'stop and restart' or only some of them? Will 'bad things' happen if I set some of them to go off?Any friendly, simple explanations would be greatly appreciated. Maybe you'll also help someone who's afraid to ask :-)Thanks!Gavin

Short answer: Not all of them.IMHO, I would stop all of them except the explorer.exe, which is actually your desktop.I don't have Windows ME, so I'm not sure what programs run on it by default.Maybe if you post a screen shot of the program window from FSAutoStart I can help you out.Regards,

KenThis is a bit embarassing. I don't know how to do a screenshot. There's about 30 of the little devils. I know, I know...it's like when my girlfriend told me one of her friends had a motorbike. 'Which type?' I asked. 'A blue one.' she replied. Thanks for your help!Gavin

I would like to know too! Here's a screenshot using WinME:

Open the Programs window, size it so it shows all the programs, then press Alt+Print Screen. The screen shot is now in the clipboard. Now, open Paint and paste it in (Ctrl+V). Save the file and post it up!

I'm not sure about all of them. You can probably Google search the filename. I'll list here what I know:AVGCC32.EXE - AVG Anti virus - you can shut it down if you want...there is another post here about the pros/cons of thatEXPLORER.EXE - that is your desktop. It is possible to stop it, you will lose any ability to open files or click on icons until it restarts again.IEXPLORER.EXE - IE Browser. Stop it.SPOOL32.EXE - has to do with printing. You can shut it down if you don't need to print in Flight SimTAPISRV.EXERNAAPP.EXE - I think this is for a dial up internet connection. You will need this if you use the internet while flying.ZLCLIENT.EXEVSMON.exe - zonealarm - I would keep them running (http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/vsmon/)DDHELP.EXE - DirectX app - not sure if this needs to be running or not (http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/ddhelp/)REALSCHED.EXE - RealNetworks scheduler - defintely stop it(http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/realsched/)

Thanks Ken, I'll do that when I get home.Much appreciated!Gavin

I'm no expert on this, but I believe you should be careful about stopping STATEMGR.EXE (or something similar - I'm not at home with my Windows ME machine to confirm the exact name). On WinME this process not only implements the system restore function (which you may have disabled) but it also acts to prevent you or an application deleting critical system files.John4m NW of EGHI (Southampton UK)FS2002 Standard on Intel PIII 733 MHz, 256MB with 32M GeForce2MX graphics and Windows ME

KenI took the screenshot, but the forum won't let me upload it. Says it's too big..Gavin

You can use Paint to stretch the image down. You need to be 800 X 600 and < 125 KB.
