Because P3D is no wonder. How much are you getting in FSX in similar situation with the similar settings?

9Fps in P3D compared to 32FPs in FSX.

Aidan,You could have a look at the setup guide that comes with Orbx FTX PNW demo for P3D. Plenty of good information in there.
