So here is one of the new X79 boards from ASRock. It is the Extreme 7 and it only has 6 RAM DIMM's, so how do they run in quad channel?http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=416&products_id=18901Thanks in advance,

It's weird yeah. So there's two possibilities I guess:1.- 4 slots - 4 channels, the other 2 slots in dual channel (flex mode)2.- 3 or 6 slots populated for tripple channel, ignoring the fourthI take it it's #1 since the board's specs reads "quad channe memory"EDIT: it's definitely #1http://europe.asrock.com/downloadsite/manual/X79%20Extreme7.pdf

So technically there are two different channels running, that's odd.

If flex mode still works with these new chips, and it should, then you would have 4 slots in quad channel and two in dual channel, provided that all the sticks are the same size.So for example, if you use 4GB sticks, it would only be after filling the lower quad channel 16GB that the upper 8GB would work in dual channel
