November 30, 201114 yr I recently made some updates to my FS PC. I run FSX with the NGX and ASE. I also have FSDT scenery for JFK. I run FSInn on a networked laptop. My current/new specs are:Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 motherboard6gb DDR3-1600AMD FX6100 6 core 3.3GhzPNY GTX560Ti 1024 GbMy HDD is fairly old, I don't remember exactly what it is. My PC identifies it as a WDC WD25000AAJS.A sandy bridge CPU wasn't an option due to price. So, what can I expect with this configuration, any tweaks recommended? My FSX.cfg has been ******* tweaked, and my graphics settings are as recommended in Ryan's thread.
November 30, 201114 yr What CPU cooler? Are you going to overclock (I hope)? That HDD is old. 250GB I take it? At some point I would contemplate buying a couple of 500GB/1TB Spinpoints or Caviar Blacks, at least. You can expect decent performance, especially with an overclock. What CPU are you coming from? ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
November 30, 201114 yr I'm currently using the stock cooler. I have a Coolermaster, but I'm hoping to wait and see if I need to use it as it is a pain to install.I'm coming from a Phenom II X2 550, a 2.8 OC to 3.1.What overclock would you recommend? What benefit would I get from a HDD upgrade?

What benefit would I get from a HDD upgrade? If you have an alternative to the AMD stock cooler, then by all means use it! Especially before you mount the new motherboard. The stock cooler will not be optimal for any sort of overclocking. You'll notice a healthy gain over your current X2, so I wouldn't be too worried. I will say though, that for 80$ more you could have built a sweet 2500k/Z68 system which would knock your upgrade's socks off...As for the overclock, that's up to you and your skill level. Finally, upgrading the HDD will give you better load times, less blurries, and more room of course! ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
