Problem 4 Sherlock Holmes

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone,I am having a problem in FS9 that I cannot solve. When I try to fly to or start at the default KSEA airport in daytime (after 700am local) FS9 shuts itself down.Everything works normally at night but when daylight hits is when I have troubles. I have tried :1.Removing any custom AFCAD2 files and just running the default.2.Removing and re-installing the default scenery and texture files for KSEA contained in FS9/Scenery/Cities/Seattle.3.Removing and re-installing the entire default Texture folder.4.Examining the scenery.cfg file for errors (found none).I have done all I can to undo any changes that may have been made to this airport but nothing seems to work.I have noticed that the ground (earth) textures in and around the airport appear to be missing that is why I concentrated on the texture files. If someone is willing to help me on this I have screenshots available that show the problem just before FS9 shutsdown. 1 other note, I can run in slew mode at all times of the day but not in normal flight mode. Any help appreciated. Thanks!Gary

Dont know if this is part of "re-installing the intire default texture folder" but besides from "FS9Texture" folder there is also SceneryWorldTexture folder you might wanna try and reinstall.I have mostly had this problem when installing some buggy texture for the ground, mesh and the like. Also, maybe try and examine the modules folder for something suspecious looking dll's and move them out of the folder temporarily if any looks odd :)Am leaning towards a texture problem though, since nighttime seems to work i.e. a daytime texture thats acting up..

Hi CargoMan,I cannot remember if I have tried that fix or not before but it sure is a good idea..I will give that a try.. Also will have a look in Modules but I think the only thing added in the was FSUIPC..but it can't hurt to check there as well..Thanks!!Gary

Well I tried replacing both scenery and texture folders in Scenery/World/Scenery folders...no go still stuck...Will check back for any further replies later..Thanks again!!Gary

I can not promise this will help you but whenever I came across a problem of FS9 crashing at KSEA the answer for me was changing the video card drivers. I could fly just about every place else with no problems but KSEA was giving me fits, I changed the drivers and never a problem since. Strike that, I changed drivers once and the problem came back so I changed to a different set of drivers and problem solved. I drove myslef nuts trying to solve this problem, thinking that it could not be the drivers since the sim works fine every where else but that is what it was.Best of luck, hope you get it solved!Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg

One thing to try as an experiment--check to see whether "Render to Texture" is turned on... If it isn't--turn it on and see if it helps. I believe it's required for some texture types (like DXT-3), and the sim will crash if it tries to render one of those types without Render to Texture turned on... Kind of a shot in the dark, but it's the only thing I can think of....-John

I would try disabling the 'Seattle Aerial Photo' in your scenery library. If the problem goes away, you may have a corrupted file in the Seatac Aerial scenery. Remember of course to re-start the sim after disabling the scenery.Good luck,John M.Edit: It just occurred to me that if the ground textures around the airport are disappearing, the scenery may already be disabled, and you may need to enable it instead.
