Does anyone know if it is possible to update the GPS in FS2K2? More and more waypoint names are no longer valid. I have heard that there are updates available but I have yet to find any. Thanks!!!Safe landings...George

Generally no!! The information used to build the data you observe in Map View and on the GPS is contained in the hundreds of scenery (*.bgl) files. These files serve several purposes; one, provide visual scenery you see out the window; and two, provide navigation data that makes up the maps and GPS. So the flight simulation works correctly, the two purposes have to match, i.e, the end of the runway matches a landing waypoint for an approach used by the autopilot. Also the flight simulation world in FS200X is static, meaning things like magvar are not changing as they do in real life.In real world situations, updating the GPS is accomplished to account for any changes in the aviation world that would cause navigation errors. The GPS update vendor only has to worry about the database being accurate to the actual world. They don't have to worry about drawing the actual visual presentation you see looking out the window. This does not preclude one from designing and displaying a new runway, airport, or scenery that wasn't included in the default FS2004. Quite the contrary, new scenery is developed daily and uploaded to the various sites. The only limitation is the static nature of FS200X data that can't be changed, such as, magvar. One must design within these limitations, otherwise, you are designing a whole new flight simulator.W. Sieffert
