I flew from KOKC to KEWR the other night. I was using RC for my ATC because no online controlers were on. Aftre I got into NY CTR NY APP had me to comtact him. After contact was made he had me to decend and got me down to 3000. He told me field was to my right at 3:00. He didnt put me on a ILS approach or anything. I was on my own. After I missed approach and got back around to try again he came on and said Sir just land the plane I have severl other planes to land. If this was a real life controller there would had been a major problem at EWR. Already had low celings and they had a GS program in effect. I beleive that student coltrolers should not be able to handle major airports unless there is a Instructor with him.

From the sounds of things, it looks like you were assigned a visual approach, if ATC was advising you that the fields was at your 3 o'clock. Normally you would report the field in sight and then ATC would clear you to land.If for whatever reason, you were not able to do a visual approach due to visibility, etc. you can advise ATC that you are unable and request an ILS approach.I am not sure if you are new to flying on VATSIM, but there are a couple things you can do to help get used to flying online:1. Put "Newbie" in the comments section when sending your flight plan. This will let ATC know that you are new to flying on the network.2. Until you are used to flying with ATC, try flying to airports that are less busy.3. Consider signing up with a VATSIM ATO (Authorized Training Organization) that will help you get started flying online. http://linksmanager.com/vatsimvas/authorised-training-organisation.htmlHope this helps,

Yep, sounds like a mix up wherea visual was goven, however shouldnt the controller STATE something like clear for the visual, or report airport in sight????That could definelty cause confusion on both parts.
