Just tried this program and its brilliant. Getting 20 frame rate nearly all the time. Well Done.

Is it easy to use?I am going to install it tonoght.I run FS with FSnav and Radar Contact.Do I just check off to stop and restart all other programs and services that are running? No chance to shut down anything that is vitle to my computer running is there?I have win XP Pro.Thanks,Ron

On my system (XP Prof) I shutdown every program (including the desktop) and terminate a bunch of services. The help that comes with each service should help you decide what to run and what to stop. Remember, it doesn't do anything permanent, so if you have a problem, reboot and try again.

Thanks for the response.I got it running and works well for programs, but when I hit services button it says something like access denied to services control panel (error 5) or something like that, can't remember exactly but I know it says error 5.Thanks,Ron

Just a WAG, but how are you logged in? Disabling services will often require administrative privileges. So you need to be logged in as administrator, or add your user account to the administrators group.-Basil

That is correct. On 2000/XP machines you must be an administrator or in the administrator group in order to start/stop services.I haven't tested this, but you should be able to tell FSAutoStart to Run As and give it the administrator login/pwd if you don't want to change your permissions.

That explains it.Thanks.I keep forgetting that I changed my settings so I don't log on as administrator.I read in win XP that they don't recommend logging on as admin because then other people can hack into my computer.Don't know if this is right but that's why I changed it.Ron

For a home computer, I wouldn't consider it a life or death choice as to whether to use the administrator account. But you can always add the account you log in on to the administrators group, and then you might as well be logged in as administrator, and will have the privileges you need.

Ken- I am using fsautostart, and it is a great utility to eliminate a bunch of "pre-preparation" to run fs. My question is, how do you shut down the desktop? I could not decipher from the list of programs or services.ThanksBaron

The desktop is explorer.exe. You should see it in your list of programs.Note on XP that when you do this, it thinks you want to logoff or shutdown. Just press Cancel. You may have to do this twice. The your desktop will be shutdown. Make sure to set it to restart if you want your icons and taskbar back ;-)

Thanks Ken for the fast reply.Have experienced fps reduction over the past several weeks. Think some of it is due to new software loads, and just general "framusing" of the computer over time. FSAutostart is a big help! Will disable Explorer--see what happens.Heee're we go again!Baron

Forgot to mention:There is a reg setting that you have to set to keep the OS from auto-restarting the desktop (which it does by default). It is:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWinlogonThe Name is AutoRestartShell - set it to 0 and reboot.

?every program? i hope , if you get weather updates, that you leave the AV [ and zonealarm in cable] running. tt

I have a hardware firewall...and I'm not going to get a virus when the only thing that comes into my computer during a FS session is weather data (IMHO.)
