December 14, 201114 yr Hi,I have been searching old posts for this issue and whilst I have found similar problems, I could not find anything that covers my specific issue. I recently built a new computer a few months back and reloaded FSX (since the old computer never did FSX justice).I have saved a flight (checked in the sim as the default) with the virtual cockpit zoom and the runway view zoom set to 50% (instead of the default values the sim normally loads with). The strange thing is that after doing this, when cycling through the views, it will start at the virtual cockpit (that is fine), but would never cycle through the fly-by view. The only way to get the fly-by view included in the view cycle was to manually select it via right-clicking of the mouse then manually selecting that view.So I then decided to save my default flight from the fly-by view instead of virtual cockpit perspective. This time, when I load a flight, it still defaults to the virtual cockpit view (good), but this time the spot view is missing from the view cycle! Again, the only way to get this view back is to manually right-click the mouse then select the appropriate view. Can someone explain to me why these external views are going "missing" when I select a flight to be the default flight, even when saving that flight as the default, all the views are cycling through correctly with none being missed.Basically all I am trying to do is have a default scenario where all systems are off, engine is off, cockpit zoom and runway view zoom are 50%, but to also be able to cycle through all the external views without having to use that mouse clicking procedure through that on-screen pop-up menu. Thanks
December 15, 201114 yr Hi,Are you comparing the CycleThroughViews in FSX, with how that worked in FS9 (the "S" command) ??If so: the viewing system in FSX is completely different.By default, in FSX the "S" command changes views between Categories. And since, again by default, FlyBy and Spotplane view are in the same Category, using "S" doesn't allow to view both.If your current view is Outside, use "A" to cycle through the views in the Outside category.See menu Views-ViewMode-Outside.And see also menu Options-Settings-Controls, tab Buttons/Keys for Event Category "Views".The new View/Camera system in FSX is so advanced, that it probably is very confusing :)- The default Category/View settings are in the camera.cfg file. Which you can modify.- You can define additional "camera" settings in the aircraft.cfg file, per aircraft.- For some default Categories, and a few own-defined camera's, you can define your own, direct keystrokes instead of cycling through them.In fact, you can make the "S" command cycle between any view you want (even, as a ridiculous example, between Spot and FlyBy view only ) by redefining the definitions in the camera.cfg file. But, re-reading your question:There's no need to use mouse clicking to cycle through the external views; when in an external view, use "A".Given all these configuration options, in FSX I never use the "cycle" command anymore; just my favorite "hot-keys" to set my personal preferred views.Cheers, Rob
December 15, 201114 yr Author Thanks Rob. That all make sense. I just now need to decide which of the approaches will suit me best.
