FSX with PMDG 737NGX freezing

Featured Replies

Hi!Do you guys have any idea of how can I find a solution - or at least the cause - to my problems?I recently bought FSX Gold (Deluxe+Acceleration), the PMDG 737NGX8/900 and a fresh new computer just because I wanted to go back to my simming days. Although it's still possible to have some fun, I'm facing some issues that sometimes make me want to defenestrate the whole bunch. Here's the situation:My FSX freezes randomly. Sometimes milliseconds prior to touchdown, sometimes on descent/approach or sometimes when I hit a button on FMC. To get out of it, I have to press ctrl+alt+del and end the process "fsx.exe". I've done an extensive search on the web and read lots of threads about similar issues, but none of the offered solutions were to avail. Here some stuff I've done/do:- monitoring CPU and GPU temperatures;- reinstalled 737NGX (bought and downloaded yesterday, so I guess I have the updated version);- reinstalled FSX;- formatted HD and reinstalled OS;- downloaded all updates;- installed all recent drivers (which may not be that good - if someone knows the most suitable Radeon HD 6950 driver for FSX please let me know);- haven't installed any FSX service pack before or after installing Acceleration;- added uiautomationcore.dll (6.0.6001.18000) to FSX root folder - undone that since I have no evidence that my problem is related to uiautomationcore.dll;- tried disabling on-board sound, video and LAN;- used memtest86+ (no errors found)- maybe more a couple of thing I don't remember now, but please suggest what else I can do.The specs are:Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1Gigabyte Z68MA-D2H-B3i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz (Max. Temp.: 70ºC)2x4GB Kingston Hyper-X 1600 non-ECCHSI Radeon HD 6950 2GB (Max. Temp.: 73ºC)In event viewer all I can find is an "Application Hang":Provider Name: Application HangEventID: 1002Qualifiers: 0Level: 2Task: 101Keywords: 0x80000000000000TimeCreated: 2011-12-20T01:15:24.000000000ZEventRecortID: 1627Channel: ApplicationEventDatafsx.exe10.0.61637.0207801ccbea3e61da1bb73C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\fsx.exe 55006E006B006E006F0077006E0000000000I can't bring out a meaning of that; maybe some of you can.3 hours prior to the application hang, occured an "application error", which apparently doesn't have any relation to my problem (faulting module name: ai_player.dll). That might have happened when I intentionally closed the simulator after a flight.So... I would really be grateful if you could help me or suggest other methods.Thank you for reading!

For starters:

  1. Make sure you have the latest FSUIPC Update installed (Currently v. 4752),
  2. Enable Windows Update (manual, not automatic!) to make sure you are running the latest runtimes for all MSVC and .NET, versions on your PC,
  3. UAC - User Account Control needs to be off,
  4. Run FSX as Admin,
  5. Real-Time Anti-virus checkingneeds to be OFF,
  6. Disable all automatic updates for the likes of Adobe Flash, Sun Java, etc.

Cheers,- jahman.

Hi, jahman!Thank you for your reply. I have Windows Update enabled and check manually for updates every day.Regarding FSUIPC: is it really necessary? I've never installed it and PMDG manuals don't say it's a requirement. Is it capable of avoiding problems?

You bet! The all-too-common G3D.dll CTD mostly with ORBX scenery (See here). You also benefit from wind smoothing when you use ASE or AS2012 Weather (plus a whole host of other benefits, like changing hardware assignments and calibrations automatically according to the aircraft you're flying.)Cheers,- jahman.

Ok, I might give FSUIPC a try tomorrow.I had already included FSX root folder in AV exclusions, but I'll disable the real-time checking just in case. The rest I had tried. Thanks!!

You're welcome. Good luck.Cheers,- jahman.
