CTD with GPS

Featured Replies

I get a CTD when using the GPS (both default GPS and just flight's freebie). This happens about two thirds of the time when trying to enter the ICAO code into the GPS. I've seen the problem mentioned in various places on the internet, but no one seems to have a clue about it. The problem seems to be associated with the facilities.dll file. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as it's an annoying little problem.

This has happened in the past when there are two conflicting or duplicate AFCAD's for the ICAO code you are trying to enter into the GPS. If you have two sceneries addons that are in the ICAO area, try disabling one and see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't, enable the one you just disabled and disable the other one. Hope this helps.Best regards,Jim

Jim,It freezes and then crashes as soon as you click the inner 'Push crsr' knob, so I don't think it can be related to a specific airport.

In FS9, that problem occurred because of a bad installation of the video card drivers. I don't recall seeing it in FSX. You might try a clean uninstall of the display drivers and reinstall. MY clean way is to go into the Device Manager, click on Display Adapters then your video card, click on the Driver Tab, click Uninstall and then click the box that asks you if you want to delete the driver software. This is important as any other method will most likely not delete the driver software and will simply overwrite the files when you reinstall. Then reinstall the drivers.Best regards,JimEdit: forgot to add you should run a registry cleaner before reinstalling the drivers.

I found the following link through a Google search - http://us.generation-nt.com/answer/fsx-vs-gps-crash-question-help-202442952.html. Perhaps it might help you too.Best regards,Jim

Another suggestion is to Google 'facilities.dll error' and you'll get suggestions from throughout the flightsim community and not just here on AVSIM (or just from me). Something is wrong with one of your sceneries. Start disabling sceneries in the Scenery Library beginning at the top until the error goes away. You should then know what the offending scenery is that caused your crash(es).Best regards,Jim

Well, I disabled all my addon sceneries, and re-enabled them in batches, in the hope of isolating the guilty scenery, and nothing happened. No more ctds. Looks like the culprit was the scenery.cfg file itself, and disabling and the enabling all the sceneries seems to have fixed it. Thanks for the help, Jim.
