February 14, 200422 yr Well, I hope some of our FS9 experts can help me out here. I wanted to do a flight on the CV-990 last night, and I set up my 990s with an automatic smoke gauge which automatically triggers the exhaust smoke trails when the throttle position exceeds a certain value. However, when I throttled up for take-off I would not get your usual smoke trails, but rather a set of afterburner flames - and I think most of you will agree that the 990 did NOT have 'burners :-lol .Anyway, I exited the sim and checked out the FX file in question. I found out that the smoke FX file referred to a file named "fx_1.bmp", to be found in the "Effects/Texture" subfolder inside the FS9 directory. I opened the file in Photoshop and found the image consisted of two halves - the top half being "white", the bottom featuring a set of flame graphics. Following a hunch, I then checked out the other BMP files starting with "fx_(number)", and noticed "fx_5.bmp" was a solid "white" image. I backed up the original "fx_1.bmp" file, created a copy of "fx_5.bmp" and renamed it to "fx_1.bmp", hoping this would restore the normal engine smoke. However, after restarting FS I was still getting afterburner flames, even on aircraft which definitely use no afterburner effects.Anyway, do any of you have an idea of what might be wrong here?
February 14, 200422 yr Author Well,It sounds like the "automatic" smoke gauge that you use not only switches the Smokesystem but also "lights" switches.(the smoke is probably covered by the burner effect)And that the "Light" section of your aircraft accidentally contains burner effects.- Can you copy/paste the SMOKESYSTEM and LIGHTS section from your aircraft.cfg file here ?- Which gauge do you use to enable the smoke ?Rob
