January 10, 201214 yr I have owned my Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals for a few years now, with trouble free operation. But just recently, I'm have run into a strange problem that I have found that no one else has, at least from my research so far on google.According to the Windows 7 calibration software, my left toe brake is stuck, as in it's depressed fully. The left toe brake itself is not physically depressed, and I can't see any visual evidence that there is a hardware issue, nor do I hear any strange noises when I pivot the brake. I would try opening the hardware to diagnose, but before I go to that trouble, I wanted to see if there is a way I can resolve this via a software fix. I reinstalled the drivers, and that did not help. I have no idea how the pedals work, but I suspect that there may be some kind of potentiometer or worn out part inside either the toe brake or in the base of the hardware that has died.Below is a screenshot of the calibration tool. At first things look fine, but once I depress the working right pedal, the left pedal goes to full depression and stays there. I found out about this issue when I was taxing the PMDG NGX, and noticed that I had to use 40% or more thrust just to stay moving, and the plane kept swerving to the left, needing constant right rudder.Upon landing at my destination, my first instinct was to check the game controller calibration, and here I am now on this forum. I'm fine with buying a new set of pedals, but I'd really like to at least attempt to fix the hardware if at all possible. I believe I have read that it's not uncommon for pots to die on other Saitek hardware, and I'd sure prefer to replace fix this myself if I can rather than spend the money to buy a new set of pedals, since they are basically look and feel like they are new, even after all these years! January 10, 201214 yr Use FSUIPC4 to assign and calibrate your axis. FSUIPC4 has 3 different methods for sending axis inputs to FSX "Type of Actio Required" under the "Axis Asignments" tab (see John Cook's Configuring FSUIPC), and also allows you to assign hardware (axis, buttons, switches, keys) based on the aircraft you are currently flying.Cheers,- jahman.
January 12, 201214 yr Author I did a little more research and found two others who had the same issue. Apparently, they found out that their potentiometer pots had died. I also believe I have found a cut wire in the base of the unit, and I can't for the life of me figure out how that would happen, as I am very gentle with the unit. Anyways, I don't think I can fix these myself, so I'm just going to buy a used set of pedals from either Ebay or Amazon.Shame that this happened, as the pedals have been trouble free for the most part. It annoys me to no end when manufacturers skimp on penny/dollar parts like pots, it's like they want you to buy a new peripheral after the warranty runs out. My previous CH pedals never had this issue. A.J. Domingo
January 12, 201214 yr My previous CH pedals never had this issueI opened mine a while ago aut of curiosity to see if I could eliminate the center detent (I couldn't) but I can say they are build like a rock! (and the pto, if it ever fails, is trivial to replace.)Cheers,- jahman.
January 14, 201214 yr Author I may try to replace the pot, but I'm not sure where to find the right part. I don't have much soldering experience, but have fixed broken wiring in my guitars and replaced worn out capacitors on my Samsung flat screen tv.Any idea where I can find a replacement part? A.J. January 15, 201214 yr Author I have decided I would like to attempt to fix the issue, or buy a replacement set of pedals. I always try to fix things first, and so I have gone to Saitek's forum to try to create an account, but their administrator has disabled new forum registrations claiming that they are flooded with spam. That is a rather pathetic excuse that shuts out all new customers (or current customers who never had access to the forum), so now I can't even post on the official forum asking for help/advice from fellow customers! Instead, I have opened a ticket with Saitek directly, asking if it's possible for me to fix either a broken wire or replace the pot, but I have little faith that they will help for two reasons: - the warranty has expired- because said warranty has expired, they are most likely going to say that the parts are irreplaceable and that I must buy new hardware. So I ask, has anyone here run into a hardware issue with their Saitek pedals, and were you able to fix the issue yourself? The pedals are not really that expensive ($95 new from Amazon), or I can find them cheaper on ebay, but then that could be a gamble because I could run into this whole reliabliity of parts issue all over again while not really saving that much money vs. a set of new pedals that are factory fresh and covered by a warranty. My point is that buying a set of pedals to replace my old set is reasonable, but I love to fix things myself, and I'm sure there is someone out there that has been in this situation before. A.J.
