Any way to modify IFR flight plan enroute?

Featured Replies

Hi, I thought that some time back, I saw a headline about an add-on that allows the pilot to request enroute changes to an IFR flight plan. I assumed the add-on would also change the flight plan within FS9, such as in the flight director. I have scoured AVSIM (making extensive use of the search functions) and other FS sites, and cannot come up with it. Does anyone else remember this? or know of something that performs this function? Thanks,Frank P

I'm assuming you're aware of the method to change your IFR plan within FS, right? I.e. by using the ATC menus when flying IFR... I use this to get a "pop-up" IFR flight plan sometimes. Other than forcing you to go to the FS flight planner (and thus pausing the sim), it works well.Dave Blevins

Dave, Thanks for the quick reply. No, I am not aware of what you refer to. I have tried modifying the flight plan enroute in FS9, but it sends me to the ground at my departure point. I'm looking for a way to change my filing, such as diverting to another airport, or such as modifying the route to bypass waypoints and shorten the route. Is this already possible in FS9? Thanks,Frank P

>I.e. by using the ATC menus when flying IFR... I use this to get a >"pop-up" IFR flight plan sometimes.Sorry, but I'm not sure what you mean. When I am enroute and use the ATC option to change an IFR flight plan, and when I click on it, I am sent to FS9 Flight Planner where I have to go through the entire creation of a flight plan again. Is this what you mean?I know that at a certain point when creating a new IFR flight plan I am asked if I wish to go to the Departure airport. I of course say "No" thereby continuing on my flight. Thanks,DonaldS

Well, I tried tonight and was successful in changing my destination airport, but have not figured how to change enroute waypoints if continuing to my original destination. The other thing that throws me is that I seem to have to Save the flight plan before I can use it.Also, even though I was able to change my destination, I had some difficulty with the GPS/FD. It had my new route loaded. I could see it if I clicked the FPL button. But the AP/FD would not couple to it. I was able to browse the GPS FPL to the first waypoint, and select it, but the rest of the flight plan's waypoints vanished. I'm still on a steep learning curve here. What I'd really like to do is create flight plans that are IFR airway-based, and then when airborne request direct to a waypoint. That is realistic per real world flying. Thanks for the help and suggestions,Frank P
