Problems with FSGenesis site?

Featured Replies

As with most posts of this nature, the problem probably lies with the poster, but I'll ask anyways... :)I've been trying to get onto the fsgenesis site for a few days now (off and on, anyway), and it always times out after about 30 seconds. I've tried both www.fsgenesis.net and portal.fsgenesis.net. I don't have this problem from my work computer, but I doubt they'd appreciate me purchasing and downloading stuff from there. I was wondering if maybe their server is having problems, or if there's something screwy (but affecting this one site only) on my side. Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated!

Howdy:FSG recently moved the server so I guess old (proxy) settings in your computer might interfere with the loading.I know nothing about servers so I just post a few quotes from the FSG forum ;-) "You need to clear your browser cache. Also, under Tools | Internet Options, General tab, Settings, make sure the radio button beside "Every visit to page" is enabled. That will prevent your browser from opening old pages from the cache. ""On looking farther, I checked the HOSTS file in the Windows directory. It had the following 2 entries: 207.44.154.7 portal.fsgenesis.net 66.129.99.88 www.fsgenesis.com After I removed these, everything is now working fine! "Hope one of these does the trick.Cheers, Holger

Holger, Mac, Thanks for the suggestions. I tried the 'reload every page' thing, but it didn't make a difference. I couldn't find a Host file in the /windows directory, though - not even when using the search function. Deleted all my temp. internet files, cookies, etc - no go. Frustrating! When I type in 'www.fsgenesis.net' I get the message 'redirecting', but that's where it eventually hangs (when trying to resolve 'portal.fsgenesis.net'. Bizarre.

That is really weird. Just visited FSGenesis with no problem. What happens when ya click on the link in Holger's post? -- BTW, that is the same link in my favorites list and it works every time.Your browser seems to be mad at you.-------------------Racartronit means something, but I just can't remember what

Well, when I click on Holger's link, or if I manually type in www.fsgenesis.net or portal.fsgenesis.net or www.fsgenesis.com, the browser page goes blank except for 'redirecting....' in the top left corner (normal so far...). Then at the base of the browser I can see that it's trying to resolve 'portal.fsgenesis.net', and the little green bar thing which indicates the progress in loading the site begins its march towards the right of the bar. It slowly reaches the half-way point and then I get the standard Gateway Timeout error ('A gateway timeout occurred. The server is unreachable. Retry the request.'). This only happens with the fsgenesis site, as far as I can tell. My guess is that for whatever reason, my browser or isp (rogers.com) can't resolve the address. This is a new problem - I used to have no difficulty accessing the site in the past, and managed to pick up the excellent Canada 76m mesh.

Problem solved! Thanks, guys, for your suggestions and taking the time to try and help me out. As it turns out, the problem was certainly not on fsgenesis's part, and not even a problem with my browser or computer settings (surprisingly!) - it was with Rogers.com, my isp. Thanks again! :)
