Correct order of install?

Featured Replies

Hello!I seem to have hit analysis paralysis when trying to figure out the correct order of installing my "eye candy" :) I hope you could lend me a helping hand!I now have a totally new system and would like to get the following purchases installed:

  • GEX Europe
  • UTX Europe
  • AS2012
  • REX v2
  • FTX US terrains

Is this the correct order of install and do I have to restore default textures from AS2012 before installing REX v2?I purchased AS2012, REX and FTX products during the holidays and have never used them before. Many of these products seem to overlap (especially AS2012 and REX). Do I need to mix and match (let's say REX clouds and AS2012 water) to get least possible drop in performance?I currently use ASE so I would like to use the AS2012 weather engine. Here's my new build if that helps: 2600K, 8GB mem, GTX 580 1.5G, SSD (OS), 2TB drive for FSX.Thanks for the help!Jarkko

One thing I'm trying to figure out is: which of these add-ons change the default FSX textures?

GEX, UTX & the FTX packages all do. I cannot speak to the REX, I don't have it installed. Incidentally, they all work well together and vastly improve what you see out the cabin windows. I guess you can include AS2010 too. It has optional textures that can be installed. Truthfully, anything you buy as an add on is better than default.Although most will disagree, you can install things in any order you want and things will be OK. Perhaps not the absolute best, but things will work well. Search for a NickN installation guide. I am not on my flight sim computer so cannot send a link.I don't use REX but can say that most posts I read say that REX has the best textures but a crap wx engine. AS2010 is the program of choice for wx depiction. I have used Hifi Sim products for years and can vouch for them (FWIW).I don't know why I say this, but I'd install my FTX sceneries last--be sure to install the latest libraries from Orbx after all FTX sceneries are in place. I have a ton of Orbx goodies in place and have to say that they seem to cause the greatest performance hit of any programs you have named. Not crippling by any means, but you will know when they are running. But they are worth every penny of money and performance as well.If you are interested in some ungodly boring reading, PM me an email address and I will send you a copy of my installation diary. It has some links and reminders of interest. Let me know--or not.
