March 4, 200422 yr I am currently unable to load FS2004 - after the Splash Screen I get another screen opening but it disappears so quickly I am unable to read if there is anything written on it. I hav uninstalled FS9 refragged the HD and reinstalled FS9 more than once, but still get the same result. I can only assume another programme that I have installed is clashing with FS9 but how do I find out which one it is. Is there any way i can do this.?? I would be very grateful for your helpI am using Windows XP and wonder if the administrator/user arrangement could cause any probs.George Aldridge
March 4, 200422 yr Hi,There could be a number of reasons for this problem. I never have this problem so it may be a little difficult for me to try and troubleshoot. I'll bet some other folks who had this problem and solved it will give some good suggestions to try, but anyway for what it's worth here's mine. After uninstalling FS2004 still leaves behind configuration settings. So, make sure you delete the 'Flight Simulator 9' folder, and more importantly the folders...X:Documents and SettingsAdministratorApplication DataMicrosoftFS9andC:Documents and SettingsYour_UsernameApplication DataMicrosoftFS9I would recommend that you install FS2004 as the Administrator, of course, and that the first time you run it, run it as the Adminstrator(if you want to use the 'RunAs' command it should work). Are you seeing any kind of error reported in your 'Event Veiwer'? If you have the 'Event Log' Service going you might get a error reported in the Event Viewer. To have a look at these go to Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services, and Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Event Viewer.Good Luck,Jim
March 4, 200422 yr Hi,The same problem.Had to do with wrong closure of the current flight.Try to start with one of the "good" saved flights in the aformentioned folder; of course not the one where you left the sim. After 3 fresh reinstalls with no succes, i found out this one worked. So go to that folder and double click a good one!Hope it helps,Jan"Procul Negotiis" Jan "Beatus ille qui procul negotiis..."
March 4, 200422 yr Thanks Guys - clearing out the "dead wood" inside XP did the trick and I`m back up flying once againI appreciate your help RegardsGeorge
March 5, 200422 yr I'm having this problem too, I just installed FS9-it wasn't installed before(finally got off my ####, after reformatting a few weeks ago), so I don't think in my case it could be related to a flight. I am the admin, and in event viewer, it shows two errors for every time I try to start FS. This is the description: The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: 6.
