March 11, 200422 yr Hi all,I seem to be victim of a rather exotic FS9 bug - can't hear any ATIS at any airport even though frequencies are properly adjusted.Likewise I won't get an approach instruction from ATC although all other ATC seems to work. The first call I get on approach is "Did you copy?" and when I repeat (or ask controller to repeat) I still get no message. Even if I pick the option "Ask for other approach" I hear nothing.Does anybody else experience this bug? It makes the whole concept of IFR a bit ridiculous if you don't get ATIS or approach control...Best, Sascha:-erks
March 11, 200422 yr Check to see if the slider for the ATC volume is not set too low. I do not remember which menu it is in but I know it is part of the setup proceedure when you first load the FS2004 program.Terry
March 11, 200422 yr Check your compressed audio codecs:Microsoft IMA ADPCM CODECMicrosoft ADPCM CODECMicrosoft PCM ConverterIf missing reinstall them from your OS. If disable, enable them. Detailed instructions in the AVSIM MSFS Tips and Tricks subforum.W. Sieffert Bill Sieffert
March 12, 200422 yr Thanks - will try. However I should have made clear that I can hear all ATC except approaches and ATIS!Best, Sascha
March 12, 200422 yr Have you added an third party scenery? If so, try removing it to see if the ATIS returns.I am unsure what you mean about approaches. Do you mean the aircraft is not ever cleared to an approach by ATC?W. Sieffert Bill Sieffert
March 12, 200422 yr First question that I have Sascha is if you get the text of the message from ATIS or approach on the screen? If you have the text view of ATC disabled please re-enable it just to see if this part works. I would assume that if you get the text and not the verbal commands that either something went crazy with your installation or that there may be some goofy thing going on with your sound card drivers or some other sound controling software. I think that I would try to re-install FS9 to see if this corrects the issue, but I know that is not an easy thing to do for many with add-ons installed. Let me know about the text thing and maybe we can get you through this.Good luck,Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
March 17, 200422 yr Hi Philip, thanks for the reply - I was away for some days so I'm late. That is exactly the problem! I can hear ordinary ATC i.e. IFR or VFR clearances, taxi, takeoff, enroute ATC etc. with appropiate text. What I don't get (even after clean installation with no add-ons installed) is ATC approach in IFR flight, neither sound nor text.(ILS runway, VOr, DME or any vectors). I know I am missing it because the controller asks me "Did you copy?" at the appropiate time. If I ask for a repeat I still don't get anything!!!!Likewise with ATIS. Not a sound, no text for any major default airport. Strange, huh? What really bugs me is that it is selective as I hear all other messages...Wish me luck on this one, I think it won't be easy to get rid of...Cheers, Sascha
March 17, 200422 yr Thanks for the reply - I was away, that's why I am responding so late. This bug is REALLY strange because I can hear all ATC (and see text)e.g. taxi, take-off, clearance except all approach messages (IFR runway used etc.). I know I'm missing it because the Controller gives me a "Did you copy" message at the right time. Then when I ask for a repeat - nothing!Same with ATIS - no text, no sound..Oh well...
March 17, 200422 yr Sascha, For some reason I seem to remember someone having a problem like this before, but I can not remember where or when. I am going to do some searching and see what I can find out. Something in the back of my mind is screaming that I have seen this before. Can you do me a favor, set up a flight, IFR of course, and save it, then could you send me the saved flight files via email, especially the *.FLT file, it will be located in My Documents/ Flight Simulator Files. I doubt that I will find anything in there but it is worth a shot. My email is [email protected] Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
April 15, 200422 yr Hi SaschaI had the same issue but found that using FSTraffic 2002 on FS2004 was the problem. In the setup for FSTraffic uncheck the FSTraffic ATC voicepacks and use the FS2004 defaults only and voila, ATIS etc will be restored. That is, assuming that you are using FSTraffic 2002...RegardsRicky G
April 15, 200422 yr Dear Ricky,I don't use fs2002 traffic, but this sounds like an interesting lead -I'll check up on it!Thanks, Sascha
