Upgrading to dual monitor setup

Featured Replies

Good evening everyone,Here goes...At the moment I am using a Samsung LED TV 37" TV as monitor, attached to a EVGA GTX 580.That works fine but since I was used to have a dual monitor setup when flying FS9, I want to recreate that for fsX.Now, I have read quite a bit on the topic and as I understand, FSX is'nt very 'friendly' when used on two monitors.I am flying in windowed mode and I read somewhere that using two monitors halves the framerate. So first question... Is it true that using a second monitor is puuting such a strain on the system/program that framerates are only half the normal framerate. If so, is that because I use the second monitor on the same graphic card as my LED TV.Can I reduce the effect on framerates by putting in a second adapter to drive the second monitor)Or do I have to go SLI to reduce the effect on framerates? (is quite an expensive move in my case because I can easily add a second card (pci-e) but not in SLI cause my motherboard isn't ready for SLI)all help and suggestions are welcomeLuc BrusselmansBelgiumPS If SLI is the way to go, what motherboard do you suggest?

Hi Luc,My experience is, that you will get a big hit on frame rates when creating another 'outside view' and putting it on a second monitor. However if you just want to display instruments or other apps. then it has very little impact. I run TH2GO on first output of card, then a monitor displaying instrument panel from second output, no noticable impact on frame rates or performance when connecting second monitor.it all depends how you want it set up.Regards,Ron.
