March 13, 200422 yr A lot of my AI traffic is old propliners. The problem is that MS ATC keeps hounding them to expedite their climb to ___ft over and over again every few seconds until I can't stand it and change the frequency. Does anyone know of a fix for this or if any of the SDK's offer any insight into how to change this? Thanks.
March 14, 200422 yr I believe it has something to do with their climb/descent rate. There's a setting in the .air file (I believe) that controls their climb/descent rate. If it's set too low, it'll climb too slowly for FS9 ATC. See if you can set it between 1200-1800 fpm.
March 14, 200422 yr Thanks for the advice. I was hoping there might be some way to get ATC to ease up because I didn't want to put unrealistic climb rates for some of these aircraft. However, that might be the only way around the problem at this point.
March 17, 200422 yr Funny this came up as I had that happen last night to me. Was climbing out of Grand Rapids MI in the 777 at FL280 with ATC clearance to FL340. The "Heavy" was struggling to gain altitide even at 800 FPM. Then came the ATC announcement to expedite to 340.I was comfortable with the slow climb rate but ATC kept sending the request. I increased the rate of climb until I almost hit stall speed and then realized that I needed to do something here. I requested "Lower" from ATC to FL300, it was approved, and I put a hundred or so miles behind me burning fuel and getting the airspeed up to Mach 8.0. Once there, I requested FL340 and easily gained the additional 4 thousand.Changing aircraft characteristics is not the way to go IMHO. If you have a HEAVY aircraft ATC does not know that and the only real way to get around it is to "stage" your ascent to crusing altitiudes. At least thats what I do. Just ask ATC for altitude deviations on the way up.
March 19, 200422 yr FYI, there is a new thread on the first page regarding loosing airspeed at altitude. May want to follow that for a while or add to it.
March 20, 200422 yr Thanks, Don, but I am not having a problem with my own aircraft. It's the AI prop planes that are not climbing fast enough for MS ATC. Thanks for the heads up anyway.
March 20, 200422 yr Look for sales ads in localpaper. Buy a used Rols Royce Merlin engine.Tag onto the old aircraft. That will keep ATC quiet!(loL)
March 20, 200422 yr Author quote..."I put a hundred or so miles behind me burning fuel and getting the airspeed up to Mach 8.0"I never knew the 777 was that quick......Richard
