March 13, 200422 yr Hi there. What do you guys think of these pics taken over Ecuador? If i'm not wrong i have no mesh addons for that area (but maybe i am wrong!). How can i get rid of those land "gaps"?Thanks in advance as usuallyLuigi ;-)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/66944.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/66945.jpg
March 13, 200422 yr Sorry! - havent actualy flown those areas but IF you are referring to the "blue" then I would suggest that they may be M$ idea of rivers or lakes in the area
March 13, 200422 yr Hi,I get those too. They are the border(or seams) of the scenery tiles. They are the most noticeable in hilly/mountainous areas but can be seen on flat land areas too. I don't know what can be done about them, except maybe ask MS to try and fix it in the next version of FS. Pretty sure they are not Video Card specific because I see you use a GeForce 4 Ti 4200. I use an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro.Jim
March 13, 200422 yr I get them as well both with my old GF4 card and my new ATI card. Also, it doesnt seem to be addon related either, I have seen this both in America, Europe and Asia both with default mesh and with addon mesh by Rob Gainer and FSGenesis alike.I suspect its related to textures loading because they dissapear when you get closer - maybe caused by one of the countless tweaks we all been doing in the FS9.cfg for example terrain tweaks :)
March 13, 200422 yr Good point. It could be to tweaks we have done. I must admit, I have the following tweaks for terrain in my FS9.cfg file...TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.900000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=8.000000There may possibly be another Terrain parameter or two I tweaked in there that it's been so long I've forgotten now.Jim
March 14, 200422 yr Thanks a lot for your inputs. My values in FS9.cfg areTERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.500000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4.50000and i'm quite happy with them; maybe they are also responsible for those scenery gaps?I do not know and can say anything.....Luigi ;-)
March 14, 200422 yr Author Commercial Member HI Luigi,Bump your TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL back a notch or two until it goes away. This will sometimes show up if it's set as high as 21. Try 20.-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x ________________ Justin - Toposim http://www.toposim.net
March 14, 200422 yr Hi Justin,i checked my FS9.cfg TERRAIN SECTIONTERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=100.000000TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=10.000000TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=100.000000TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=19TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=4TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.500000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4.50000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=7074768 What should i do at this point? Thanks for helpingLuigi ;-)
March 14, 200422 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Luigi,Try switching the *RADIUS values. The DEFAULT is supposed to be smaller than the EXTENDEDMyself, I run 5.0 and 8.0 respectively.-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x ________________ Justin - Toposim http://www.toposim.net
March 14, 200422 yr Justin,i got those numbers here on the forum...........Is this correct?TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=5.000000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=8.000000Luigi ;-)
March 14, 200422 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Luigi, yes, that should work. The default values are supposed to beTERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=2.500000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4.000000But I simply doubled them since my development machine has more than adequate horsepower.-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x ________________ Justin - Toposim http://www.toposim.net
March 14, 200422 yr Justin, can you please explain what these suggested changes mean? I have just installed FSGenesis 9.6m terrain for Hawaii.TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=19 >>>> to 22TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1 >>>> to 0Thanks againLuigi ;-)
March 14, 200422 yr Author Commercial Member HI Luigi,The MAX_VERTEX acts as sort of a throttle on the terrain resolution.A value of 21 represents 19.1m LOD=11A value of 20 represents 38.2m LOD=10A value of 19 represents 76.4m LOD=9A value of 22 (in spite of my slightly out-dated readme) does nothing, since terrain resolutions above 19.1m are unsupported in FS2004.The GRADIENT_MAP value does nothing. It's not connected to anything in FS2004, unfortunately, and has no effect. I don't know whether MS simply forgot, or if it was by design for whatever reasons. It's >supposed< to turn off the rocky cliffs on high-aspect terrain changes, but, as I say, it just doesn't work at the moment.-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x ________________ Justin - Toposim http://www.toposim.net
