March 20, 200422 yr I'm trying to put an object into FS2002 to figure out how all this works. I just made a basic sphere and colored it in gmax. I followed the tutorial instructions to export it and it seemed to be working OK, but nothing showed up in the flight sim. I was trying to put a sphere at the end of the runway at Meigs field (since that is the default start location when you fire up flight sim). Here are the steps I followed:1. make sphere and save it it gmax2. start FS, start a flight at Meigs field3. In slew mode, backed up a bit so I could see then end of runway4. In gmax exported it to these coordinates: N41* 51.19 W87*36.45 HDG 3585. In FS, clicked on 'World' and 'Scenery Library', clicked OK. It loaded up.6. according to the tutorial, I should have seen my sphere there but it wasn't.Can anyone tell me why this didn't work or what I'm doing wrong?Thank you;Christine
March 20, 200422 yr Hi,When you export the object from Gmax, you are exporting it from Makemdl, I assume, due to the fact you are inputting the lat/long figures, when you export the BGL file, where does it go?, are you putting the resulting BGL file into an active scenery folder?.You need to place the exported BGL file into an active folder, I recommend placing it in addon scenery/scenery, also make sure that when you have placed the BGL file into the folder that you "refresh" the scenery library, I see you are using FS2002, so you should judt have to open the scenery library up in FS and the just click ok, and it will rebuild the library to inclide the new added file.Dan.
March 20, 200422 yr Hi Dan;Thank you for responding to my post. I did everything exactly as you described in your reply. I put it in addon scenery/scenery. In FS I opened up the scenery library and clicked 'OK'. It loaded itself up. And still nothing. I opened Windows Explorer to ensure that my file (I called it sphere.bgl) was in the scenery folder. In the mademdl, under the 'Main' tab, the options for file type are either 'aircraft' or 'scenery'. I chose 'scenery'.Thank you very much.Christine
March 21, 200422 yr You might have to get the file into FS, try going into the Scenery library click the folder containing your BGL.Regards.G-MIDY Lawrence Ashworth
March 21, 200422 yr G-MIDYI don't understand what clicking the folder will do. I have previously gone to the 'Scenery Library' from the 'World' menu and when you click 'OK' it indicates that it is loading everyhing up.When I look in the Addon scenery/scenery folder (using Windows Explorer) my BGL file is there. When I access the scenery folder (using the flight sim itself) from the Scenery Library (acessed by pressing 'Settings' button on the first page when you start up Flight sim) it is empty. Christine
March 21, 200422 yr How big did you make the sphere? Might seem an obvious question, but if you inadvertently made a very small sphere in GMax but expected to see a bigger sphere in FS you might not notice it when you get into FS. Bit of a long shot but I actually made this mistake when I started with GMax.
March 21, 200422 yr It is quite big....probably bigger than the width of the runway. The units in gmax are set to meters.
March 22, 200422 yr Hi,if you are still having problems, you could mail me the bgl file and I'll take a look at it for [email protected].
March 22, 200422 yr Dan;I downloaded the FS2004 SDK and now its working. My objects are exporting correctly. Now I just have to figure out how to get Fltrec and Nav24 working (**sigh**). Thank you so much for your help.Christine
