Randomizer

I was wondering how hard it would be to make a small application that would randomize a destination. I like to fly corporate jets mostly, but I'm not that good at thinking of new places to go. People familiar with the corporate and charter business know that you can go anywhere at anytime.I was thinking of a small application that had all of the FS9 airport database included. Options for maximum distance and runway length would be nice. Would it take long to put something together like this? I'm not a programmer, but I know plenty of you here are.Just a suggestion if one of you fine programmers are bored. :)Thanks.Craig

Hi,Jon Masterson has been working on just such a program. Unfortunately, I found his last release to have some kind of memory leak or something. It's a beta(v0.6) so it's expected to have bugs in it. I couldn't live with that type of bug so I uninstalled it. I only tried it once though! Maybe I should have given it a couple more chances because that may have been a one time(or rare) anomaly. He said he was going to be using a new/different compiler for future versions. So I hope that helps to cure the memory leak!(if there is indeed one) If you want to try out it you can. It's in the Avsim Library. Just put 'Jon Masterson' in the 'Author' field and search. I'm still using an earlier version that he sent me to beta test(v0.3e).I am hoping that he is still working on the program and comes out with another release soon. If you try it out I think you'll see that Flight Creator is actually a fairly sophisticated program for what it is/does. The first version he released to libraries(v0.2) was not as sophisticated. I think the vision he has for his Flight Creator program is not that of an average ho-hum randomizer.Cheers,Jim

Thank you for your post! I downloaded version .6 and once Jon gets the bugs worked out of this program it will be perfect! Every time I have some kind of revelation, someone has already beat me to it. That is fine with me, no waiting involved. :) Thanks a bunch.Craig

Hi Craig,You're welcome. :) Like I said, I hope Jon is still working on it and releases another version. I think the program is a great idea, at least for those folks who don't fly in a VA. Quite some time ago there was quite a discussion in a thread on forums.simflight.com on how MS Flight Simulator doesn't have any real objectives. You just get in and fly. But where? For Why? Ect. I think Jon Masterson's Flight Creator would to fill that gap, or at least help to fill it.Cheers,Jim

I emailed Jon today and he is still working on the project. I guess it is moving slower than he initially anticipated due to other obligations, but said that possibly next month would be an entirely new release. I am looking forward to this program shaping up because if you arent flying in a VA, you need this program (well, thats just my opinion anyway :)).

Hi fella's, not trying to jump your thread, but that sounds like a terrific idea :) Going to have to go and try out that demo too....Cheers!

I've often wondered whether it would be possible to have a similar set up for AI aircraft. Imagine GA flying off to random destinations or charter companies flying to various airports depending on what the 'customer' ordered! No idea whther it could be done though?!
