March 20, 201214 yr Round one: Three or four months ago, I began to have lockups. I was overclocked to 4.0 and went back to bios defaults (which is different from my attached specs). Frankly, I did not notice much difference and have been able to fly smoothly into and out of KJFK and the like with ASE weather and a reasonably complex plane with no problems. All sliders maxed out exacept for moderate Traffic of all kinds and Mesh Resolution at 10m, Texture Resolution at 7cm, and Water effects at Low 2x. A good cleaning very well might be the solution here, but I fear it may be a sign of what is coming.Round two: Bought the new NGX737 a few weeks ago.Round three: The issue - I don't know exactly when this originated, but this is the problem I am currently seeing:Recently when I fly into some airports, on final approach or very near that point, I get a display outside of the cockpit in the scenery that looks very much like one is turning the crank on an old Kaleidoscope (You will tell your age if you know what I am talking about). A rapidly changing display of triangles, squares, and all kind of shapes flicker over the entire scenery display (Sky, Terrain and the like outside, panel is fine). Screenshots are attached. So I tried to narrow the problem down at KPIT which had been one of the offending airports.1. Started shooting missed approaches from Runway 32, ASE weather, implementing PF2000/PFE. As an old CFI from many years ago, I don't remember shooting touch and goes as being so boring, and I wasn't in an NGX either, darn it!2. Everything went swimingly for about 45 mins. Then the distorted scenery appeared. When this happens, it usually appears, goes away, appears again after a few seconds, goes away again, and at some point may remain indefinitely where you cannot possibly see the airport. At other times though rarely, the normal scenery display reappears and settles down for the landing. I tried this repeatedly. If I simply restart FSX, I still have the problem. If I restart the computer, it will be another 45 mins. or so before the problem presents itself again shooting those missed approaches. On top of that, when I made my screenshots, they were just about when I would be turning base. They cleared up after about three cycles of appearance and I went around the pattern again. Everything went fine (Murphey's Law). One more note that seems to imply a video card overload or problem: When I first tried to take screenshots of the problem display, I unchecked the secondary monitor. The problem went away at least for the time being.Temperature seems alright. I have reduced all of my video card settings to minimum to see if that made any difference (Not overclocked, but below default settings).Solution? I will try reducing Scenry Complexity and Autogen Density as recommended on other posts that had similar problems, but a little different and see if that helps. Chasing this down takes a lot of time.Speculation: My specs. are attached, which are a long way from the cat's whiskers for what is available today. However, I have been very happy with the performance, and still am with the exception of this problem raising its head.a. Considered a new 580GTX, but am apprehensive as many reviews on Newegg mention similar display distortions. Looking at my specs. below, can anyone confirm that a 580GTX would be compatible with my system anyway?b. Is it time to bite the bullet and start all over again (I hope not quite yet). Over the years as I am sure many of you have done. I have upgraded my system purely for the current FS that came out, then passed most of my hardware down into my wife's computer. I would love to wait this time untill hers shows some sign of needing work (Yea, I could sabotge the thing, but I hate to do that). If anyone has seen this exact scenario and/or knows a solution, your comments, thoughts, and advice would be appreciated.Respectfully:RTHPrimary Computer Specs:ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 LGA 1366 Intel ATX MotherboardIntel Core i7-975 Extreme Quad Core CPUScythe SY124010L CPU Fan6GB (3x2GB) 240 Pin DDR3 1600 OCZ3P1600LV6GK MemoryWinXP Pro 64 BitEVGA 01G-P3-1180-AR GeForce GTX 285 1GB 512 bigt DDR3 Video Graphics Card24" Viewsonic VA2431wm LCD Primary Monitor24" Viewsonic VA2431wm LCD Secondary MonitorNvidia version 270.61 drivers for GTX 285 Video Card1 Western Digital Velco/Raptor WD3000HLFS 300 GB 10000RPM WATA 3 GB System Harddrive1 Western Digital Velco/Raptor WD3000HLFS 300 GB 10000RPM WATA 3 GB FSX Harddrive1 each Segate 320GB SATA FS9 Harddrive1 each Segate 320GB SATA Backup / Utility HarddriveStd.
