April 4, 200422 yr I just purchased a new computer with Windows XP. I tried to install my FS2002 in the new computer and got this error message several times: "The application or DLL D:DirectXsetup.DLL is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette." Then I got this error message: "DirectX setup failed." I just downloaded and installed DirectX 9.0 (and restarted the computer). Does anyone know what is wrong here?Thank you.
April 5, 200422 yr Author Press Start, Run..., type dxdiag, OK. Let the directx diagnostics stabilize. Once stabilized, review the directx version installed. If version 9.0b, proceed to display tab. Ensure DirectDraw, Direct3d, and AGP Accelerators are enabled. If any or all are grayed out, you need to install or reinstall the Motherboard Controller Chip drivers, i.e., Intel, VIA, SiS, AMD, ALi, NForce. If they are all enabled, test the DirectDraw and Direct3d.If you have DirectX9.0b, then the FS2002 shouldn't try installing directX8.0. When you start the FS2002, do you have an option to NOT install directx. If so, make sure you follow that path.Visit http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/ support and click on the items for further support.http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...Ben-us%3B245063http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;303032http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;310353Also make sure you are on an administrator's account when you try installing FS2002 (or any other program for that matter). You can check your if your user account have administrator priviliges by pressing Start, Control Panel, User Accounts. A user account with administrator priviliges will be labelled Computer Administrator. If you are on an account without administrator priviliges, you cannot change the account. Restart your computer, press the F8 key between the Black DOS screen and prior to the Windows Screen. If successful, a second DOS screen will appear. Select the Safe Mode. Once safe mode is stabilized, press Start, Control Panel, User Accounts. Change you primary user account to have administrator priviliges. Restart your computer to the normal Windows logon.W.
