March 26, 201214 yr Hi everyone!I'm working on a British Airways World Cargo repaint (to be precise, reg G-GSSD) and I'd like to do this as realistic as I can.But I had a question (actually two, but I think currently we can do nothing with the second one):In FSX there is an antenna at the bottom of the fuselage (see the screenshot below) that is not exist in the real world. Is there any way to delete it? Or make it transparent or something? And the second one is rather a feature request: BA puts the GE logo only to engine 1 and 4, so all engine would need another texture. I think it's not possible to do now, but hopefully the new version will support it. ;) These are small things, but these would make it even more realistic.
April 8, 201214 yr Theoretically, you could make that part of the texture transparent, by means of an alpha channel with that location showing as 100 percent black (transparent) on the alpha channel, but in practice it would be tricky to nail its position precisely, so I suspect you'd be looking at a lot of trial and error. A way around the tediousness of working out texture mapping locations, is to make a mapping guide texture, where you draw a numbered grid on layer in Photoshop, then save the PSD, and then flatten the file temporarily and do a 'save as' so that you have a texture where it is easy to note the placement. When you have that location identified, mark it on the texture, open that up and make that area a selection, then switch to the alpha channel and lob full black into that selection area with the paint bucket tool (use the shortcut 'D' to get a full black colour on your toolbar foreground colour so that you are certain it is totally transparent). The only other potential issue, would be how the texture is projected onto the model. If it is a flat bottom texture for the underside of the model, then you will be in business, but if it is a projection from the side, it might be a bit more of a pain in the arse. Happy painting.
