Taxiway signs

Featured Replies

I have noticed that on my system the taxiway signs are killing my performance. My specs are as follows: P4 3.2GHz, 1GB RAM, and a Radeon 9800XT. When I am at LAX with Ultimate traffic set to 65% I get around 65fps with out the taxiway signs. As soon as I adjust the scenery to show the taxiway signs my fps drop to around 24fps. This would not be a big deal to me if the sim still was able to run smooth, but it really starts to jerk and stutter. Does anyone know the folder name that contains the taxiway signs, and what is the name of the file for the signs?Thank YouRegan

As you move the scenery complexity up, you add more and more to the scenery besides the taxiway signs. If your system is stuttering with 24FPS then you have other problems. Most systems don't start stuttering until under 10FPS.I recommend you check to see what MOBO controller chip drivers you have installed, i.e., Intel, VIA, SiS, ALi, AMD, NForce. If you are using default Windows drivers, that could be your problem. Next check to see if you have DirectX9.0b installed, press Start, Run..., type dxdiag, OK. Let the DirectX Diagnostic stabilize and review the version on the System tab page. Select the Display page, ensure DirectDraw, Direct3d, and AGP Accelerations are enabled. If they are greyed out, reinstall your MOBO controller chip drivers. Run the DirectDraw and Direct3d tests.Check for updated drivers for your graphics adapter.W. Sieffert

Thanks for your response wsieffert. Everything that you stated is correct on my computer and up to date. I am able to max out all my sliders and still get really smooth and high frames. I pointed the camera at every item of my scenery and the only time it really dropped a lot was when it was when I pointed to a taxiway sign. This is why I think my signs might be the problem. I tried this on my lower end machine with the same problem. Does anyone know how to disable the taxiway signs all together but still keep my scenery maxed out. I would like to get rid of the defalt taxiway signs and replace them with the signs from Taxiwaysigns.com that I used in FS2002. These did not effect my frames even on my low end machine.

The taxiway signs are part of the Airport structure. For Instance, KMCO is in AP926210.bgl. Part of the structure are the taxiway signs. You would have a big job trying to delete all the signs from the hundreds of *.bgl files.<?xml version="1.0"?>The above is an example of a new sign I placed for a new runway using Creatsign*.zip from AVSIM library.W. WOW!!! That's a lot. Oh well I guess I'll just deal with it. All in all I love this sim so its not a big problem. Thanks for the help.
