April 12, 200422 yr Hi all,I realise there are a few posts on frame rates and system specs, but after doing a search, i couldn't find what people consider to be GOOD FPS. I get around 20FPS with a heap of AI traffic and all medium scenery settings when flying with low end aircraft. I recently purchased PMDG 737NG (bloody fantastic) but with this i only get around 10-12FPS?! Question is : How much play does the graphics card have compared with the CPU and RAM. I've got a P4 2.8 with 1GB of RAM on a Radeon Se 128mb card. I don't know much about graphics cards, but will upgrading this card give me a lot better FPS or only 3-5? Any recomendations for upgrades? Running Windows XP.Second Question is : I've got a Logitech Extreme 3D joystick (USB) that is forever uncentering itself! It always moves its center point to the left, meaning that in flight i can't turn the aircraft to the right. There are no calibration tools on the stick and I've been unable to find software for this problem. Its supposed to autocalibrate when you plug it in or start windows. Anybody had any similiar problems or suggestions.Sorry about the long post, Cheers,Kael
April 12, 200422 yr Author Moderator Kael,20fps is excellent and should give you fluid performance. The PMDG737 has a lot of gauges that all use some of the processor's power - hence the drop in frame rates.Having said that I don't recognise your graphics card. I'm using the Radeon 9800 Pro 128Mb and with a 3.0 Pentium 4 I'm getting decent frame rates even with the PMDG. So yes, changing your card to a 9800 Pro should give your system a boost but I can't be specific about how many more frames it will give you. The 9800 is probably the best graphics card for FS2004.The one factor that will kill frame rates is the amount of cloud. Keep the clouds simple and you'll get decent frame rates. It's all a balancing act.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England).
