Can too much AI cause CTDs?

Featured Replies

HiI posted earlier in the week concerning a persistent Crash-to-Desktop problem I am suffering. I have tried the following, and the problem still persists:1) Un-installing ALL but the stock scenery (ie including all AFCAD2s);2) Using a previous installation of FS9 which I had saved, with situations which I flew many times (eg a stormy final approach) with no CTDs;3) Using a totally clean FS9 file;4)Applying the know seasonal CTD fixes. The one thing that I didn't change, though, was my traffic.bgl file, and I have traffic set to 100%. Having spent a good deal of the last few months swapping out Ultimate Traffic's aircraft for FSP and AIA models, I now have plugged a lot of the gaps left by the default UT traffic file. This means I have got lots of traffic! When I roll the traffic density back from 100% the problem seems to abate. I therefore believe that too much AI (even when landing at small airports where there is not much on the ground) can cause a CTD. Has anyone else encountered this problem, or can anyone else shed any more light on it?BTW, the crash report (which comes up following the CTD, or sometimes after a normal exit from FS9) says that the offending module is "DLDLL.dll"

Please check to see if "DLDLL.dll" is the offending module. Where on your computer do you find this module. You could temporarily rename all your trafficxxx.BGLs to trafficxxx.MYTRAFFIC01, 02, 03, etc. Extract the default trafficxxx.BGL from your CDs and place in your worldScenery folder and see if the problem is corrected.W. I just did a search on my computer for dldll.dll and it was not found. I also searched with google for dldll.dll and it found nothing at all. I would have thought by the name alone that it might be a virus, although when I have searched for suspected virus names in the past, google has always found something interesting. I suggest doing a search on your computer but before doing so make sure that your folder options are set to show hidden files and extensions: START - SEARCH - click on all files and folders - type dldll.dll in the box and click SEARCH. At least you might find where the file(s) is(are)located and how many files of that name you have. I also suggest doing a virus check with up to date antivirus software. I wouldn't suggest removing the file(s) manually yet.

I very rarely use AI traffic because of the frame rate issues I have but I still get CTD's. I doubt that it is anything to do with AI trafic, but who knows?I personally think it is something to do with an international setting fro either time, altitude or similar. For example, my last flight I set my own weather with clouds to a height of 8,000ft and a cloud base of 5,000 ft. I then flew around my new scenery where I created peaks at only 950ft, yet these were bathed in cloud. Something not quite right here (no CTD though), not had one since the beginning of March, hmmm.Colin

Sorry.. got the name wrong- it's "ntdll.dll", not "dldll"-Having looked into the problem further, I am still none the wiser- perhaps it's just a bug in FS9 that can spring up whenever it likes....

That is a valid dll. It is on my system and probably everyone has it if they have XP. Back to the drawing board I'm afraid. Could be just too much going on in your system. Maybe try other settings lower to compensate?

You don't give any system specs...It could just be something as simple as the fact you have SO much AI that your system cannot cope; runs out of resources/memory, and 'CRASH'!!It may also be being caused by a landclass file in the Addon Scenery folder; apparently this can cause a memory leak which will likely result in a system crash. Landclass should, it seems, go into the FS9/Scenery folder....there is another thread which details this better....do a search for landclass and you should find it. Of course, if you haven't added any new landclass, then just disregard!!You say that you've been doing a lot of swapping/replacing of AI traffic...I'd carefully check back over your modifications too, just incase there's a conflict that could be causing your problem.....Good luck :)

Hi,My specs are:Pentium IV 3.2G with HT; 400 Mhz FSB1024k RAMRadeon XT 256120Gig HDSo plenty of power...

I must have been tired when I last looked. Did you mean ntldr.dll or are you sure it said ntdll.dll?

Yep, so it should.....but, if you've got a memory leak then it wont be enough!! Before I upgraded to 1.5gb Ram, I had a couple of CTD's due to memory issues, caused it seems by that landclass issue. Put in more Ram, moved the landclass, and so far, fingers crossed, no more problems!! And I too have loads of AI, and keep adding!! Heathrow Pro looks like the M25 in rush-hour at times...nose to tail; it can sometimes take between 30 - 45 mins to get to the head of the runway!!
