I wish MSFS supported asking for 'the option' on landing

Just a minor thing, no biggie...

Just curious, what would you want the result to be? Is it just to have some more realistic chatter with the tower or would it change ATC behavior in some way?

You can ask for a different runway. I tried it for the first time tonight (asked for visual approach instead of ILS) and got a slightly different vectoring. Possibly even change your mind and ask for the original and see if it changes from what you may know to be predictable otherwise! Still haven't worked out how, if it is possible, to ask for a procedure though.

What option? Oh! "The blonde, or the brunette?" In my case, I'll never get either, so I don't care. http://sgair.net/erick/GRIN1.gif

More realstic - now that I'm actually flying real airplanes - I want everything the way it is in the real world ;-)

Different approach or different runway? Typically option approaches are for different procedures on whatever runway you're cleared to. Here's the description from the AIM:The "Cleared for the Option" procedure will permit an instructor, flight examiner or pilot the option to make a touch-and-go, low approach, missed approach, stop-and-go, or full stop landing. This procedure can be very beneficial in a training situation in that neither the student pilot nor examinee would know what maneuver would be accomplished. The pilot should make a request for this procedure passing the final approach fix inbound on an instrument approach or entering downwind for a VFR traffic pattern. The advantages of this procedure as a training aid are that it enables an instructor or examiner to obtain the reaction of a trainee or examinee under changing conditions, the pilot would not have to discontinue an approach in the middle of the procedure due to student error or pilot proficiency requirements, and finally it allows more flexibility and economy in training programs. This procedure will only be used at those locations with an operational control tower and will be subject to ATC approval. So I was wondering what else you would want to do since already you can declare a go-around or missed approach from FS ATC. You can also ask for a different approach in FS if you are IFR.

Right now, with the current ATC module, if you are in a closed pattern, and have not changed the reqest to a full stop landing by the abeam point, the ATC module will clear you for a touch and go, afterwhich you are committed to a touch and go....or else the ATC module breaks down and no one else is allowed to use the runway. The change with adding the "Option" is that the ATC module should recognize that you have landed and taxied off the runway and then instruct you to contact ground. So you're right, in that all those things can be done right now. But the difference is that doing all those things would be a lot more convenient in the game, just as in real life, if an "Option" clearance was included instead of having to go through several ATC menu keystrokes to affect a change of mind when in the pattern.

Got me there. Yup, FS definitely needs a way to let you change your mind without getting lost.
