April 22, 200422 yr Is anyone using FS Genesis 76.4 Alaska Yukon Base Terrain and the same 76.4 Canada base terrain. How do you like it and how bad is the frame rate hit. Would this be better than individual Alaska individual scenery areas from avsim??? Can they be mixed???I've never D/L any scenery for FS so unaware of any pitfalls or problems that may exist. Your help and ideas will be appreciated. ThanksChuck
April 22, 200422 yr I use both. If there is any hit in frames, I dont see it.I think it's a big improvement. I haven't been sorry about anything I get from Justin, and I've got quite a bit.Haven't tried any others, so I can't comment on them, and not sure about mixing. The before and after is looking at Indian Arm in Vancouver, BC.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/72544.jpg
April 22, 200422 yr Haven't tried the 76.4 mesh, but have all of the USA in the 38.2. The Cordillerra Canada download includes the lower coastal areas of Alaska and the Yukon. I think they are a dandy improvement and I notice no frame rate hit at all. The west coast and Rockies are available as freeware on flightsim if you would like to take a peek and see how fsgenesis offerings look, and make your own evaluation. I highly recommend them.Happy flying:RTH
April 22, 200422 yr ChuckThe Alaska and Canada mesh from FSGenesis looks great, and you can install 38.2 mesh right along with it; FS9 will automatically display the 38.2 for areas where it exhists. Holger Sandman has some excellent (and free) 38.2 mesh for western Canada. The nice thing about having full coverage 76.4 mesh and 38.2 for areas where it's available is that when you fly out of the 38.2 you won't be flying into default mesh. To get the full advantage of 38.2 mesh you want to set TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL= to 20 or 21 in FS9.cfg, and TERRAIN MESH COMPLEXITY=100 in the GUI. If these settings bog down your system just relax them to where you get good frame rates and don't worry about it. Things will still look great! David
