April 27, 201214 yr I just upgraded to an Asus P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen3 MB, 2700K CPU, Muskin 997057 Memory, and a 580GTX Video Card. I also replaced WinXPPro 64 bit with WIN7 64 Bit. I have most of my System programs and FSX reinstalled working fine. Systems, FSX, and FS9 are installed on separate Harddrives. To my surprise, FSX was no problem, but reinstallation and setup on FS9 is proving to be a nightmare. 1. I start up with the default FS9 Baron in windowed mode and everything is fine to start with. The only exception I have detected so far is that with the default FS Aircraft I am unable to get my hatswitch to pan. No issue to me personally as I never fly with default aircraft unless I am trouble shooting. This along with the next paragraph does puzzle me though. 2. I can switch to the only third party aircraft I have moved over so far (Carenado B35 Bonanza) and cockpit panning works just fine. 3. When I press the "S" key to cycle views everything goes to pot. I loose all my keyboard and joystick commands. 4. Press "S" again no change. 5. Press "S" a third time, no change. 6. Press "S" a fourth time, I get the spot view 7. Press "S: a fifth time, back to my cockpit view but still with no KB or Joystick commands. 8. Switch to the full screen mode, views cycle just fine. 9. Switch back to windowed mode and pressing the "S" key now never brings up the spot view I don't know whether the change in hardware or the Operating System brought this on or possibly something else. I have tried reinstalling FS9 a second time, same results. Has anyone else seen anything like this and knows the reason and possibly a solution. I am addicted to multiple monitors, so at least partial use of the windowed mode is a must to me. Thanks: RTH
April 30, 201214 yr Author May have spoken too soon. When I unlock secondary windows and move them to secondary monitors, things go to pot again. I don't know if this is progress or not. The solution seems to cause other problems that are even worse. I am finding that there seems to be no problem with some aircraft, but there are with others. This may take a bit of experimenting to find what works and what does not. For example, when I move windows with the Eaglesoft Citation X nothing works anymore from the keyboard. Left on the single monitor there is no problem so far. However with an imported Bonanza Twin, everything still seems to function normally and windows can be unlocked and moved around at will. Again, it is noteworthy that there is no sign of these problems in FSX.. Found a solution! 1. Right click fs9.exe 2. Select Properties 3. Select Compatibility 4. Put a checkmark by Disable Desktop Composition 5. Click Apply 6. Click OK I do not know yet if this has any negative results on anything else, but with this modification views cycle normally in the Windowed mode for FS9 along with the Win 7 64 Bit OS.
