April 28, 200422 yr I'm somewhat of a newbie, and I've taking a liking to the leerjet.I use the flight planner to fly from one airport to another using ILS, Take off and maintaining flight is no problem, but I was looking at the GPS, and how do you use the vectors and so forth to land?I saw you can choose your approach and so forth, but after that I have no clue.If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate that!
April 28, 200422 yr Good morning bokbok:Once ATC starts giving you vectors, your GPS will become a reference only. If you are useing your autopilot, switch from "NAV" to "HDG" and make all your settings (i.e. Headings, Altitudes, and Speeds) as instructed by ATC. Of course you can fly these manually without the autopilot, but it will be a bit harder. The GPS has no way of predetermining what ATC's instructions may be. When you get brave enough, you might want to take a peek at VatSim for an even more realistic ATC.As an alternative, you can setup your flights with FSNAV and fly without ATC from runway to runway if you load your SIDs and STARs. I assure you that Mr. Gate's ATC will never follow those very well in the vectors you get. For that matter, they vary a bit according to conditions real world as well some of the time.Hope this helps a little bit.Happy flying:RTH
April 28, 200422 yr The help section in FS9 has a great section on the GPS. If you want to use it to the max, or even enough to enjoy it, it's a must read. I printed it out and spent 10 or 15 minutes on it and it all became clear.
April 28, 200422 yr Ah ok.I guess I thought there might have been a way to line it up exactly. I guess it's quite an accomplishment for me so far to be able to somewhat line it up to the runway and not crash, just seeing if there was an easier way.Thanks.
